Monk's Mods
So, I ended up with an ENO DoubleNest Deluxe recently. Would not necessarily have been my first choice of hammock but I got a good deal on the price. What I did not realize is how WIDE this thing is. But I got to work on it.
First, I cut off the extra side panels, using a hot soldering iron to simultaneously seal the edges. What I noticed beforehand is that they are the perfect size and shape for snakeskins. Later I will make a tarp and sew up this material for the 'skins. Next, I took the big ol' 'biner and rope attachments off, including the big ugly knot that was hidden in the gathered ends of the hammock. I replaced that with 7/64 amsteel, tied in a retraced figure-eight knot. I had planned to make whoopie slings of the amsteel but I could not manage to thread the bury, even after fashioning a fid. Oh well, it's a good excuse to learn some hitches.
The elimination of the excess fabric, the rope, 'biners and extra strap allowed me to drop 9.6 oz.

The integrated stuff sack came off with the side panels. Then I detached it from that material, removed the strap and turned it into a bishop bag. Thanks to silverfoot for the idea and method. I finished things off with 1 1/2 tree straps with sewn-on dutch clips and toggles.

Later today I'll fashion a structural ridgeline. After I make a tarp I'll post a pic of the whole setup. Off to the coast this weekend for my first hang!

You might want to make that ridge line adjustable so you can decide on the sag you want. Wasting rope is probably the most annoying thing on planet earth.

The end that is running out of frame is what's secured to your anchor point.
The "loop" is the slack pulled out of the line

Does anyone know a way to get rid of those rope tighteners I hate the two I want to make mods to my tarp.

If you're referring to the ones that come on the ProFly. Just cut them off, if you're certain you never want to mess with them again, they're plastic.
If you're referring to the figure 9s, just don't mess with them. Attach directly to your tarp and tie off either directly to your anchors or back on themselves with a Prussic, or some other friction knot.
Personally, I like the Fig 9. They're easy to use and "simple" is good [1]. That they're convenient as well is just gravy.
[1] Especially in the dark if/when you have to readjust.

I was thinking dutch stingerz.

I don't have any pictures but I made 2 -6 foot whoopies and a whoopie for an ARL. I took off the biner and rope that was on the DN. I like the bishop bag idea. For a tarp i'm using a EMS big 6 footprint. works great so far.

Wow! You guys are awesome. So many ideas. I have not modded my DN yet but I would like to. I plan on using whoopies and installing a ridge line. I sit and look though these forums and wish I was at home in my Eno!
