I'm about to spring for the 1.1 XLC double. I'm wondering how many are using the top cover in place of the big net. Does it really help keep heat in during the cold. I will have a superfly as a tarp.

I'm about to spring for the 1.1 XLC double. I'm wondering how many are using the top cover in place of the big net. Does it really help keep heat in during the cold. I will have a superfly as a tarp.
I also purchased my XLC without the top cover. Having used top covers on previous hammocks I found them to have a limited temperature range (FOR ME). By that I mean in the 25F to 35F range. Any colder than that and I got bad condensation inside the hammock even when trying to vent a bit. For cold weather camping I much prefer an open top hammock and a bigger tarp with longer sides and fully close-able doors like my Superfly.
In temps from upper 30's to 50's, I consistently get a 10+ degree bump.
That and a break from the wind makes it worthwhile for me.
It does add warmth but as Pizza mentioned, in colder temperatures condensation can be an issue.
