My dog solution in banned parks.. seeing eye certification. You dont have to be blind.
I run a line underneath my hammock and clip my dogs (both of them) to the line 4 ft leashes keep them out of the guy lines
After our May Long weekend camping trip, the old 3 person tent we used for the dogs got wet. The fly just can't hold back the water any more.
I went to look for some silicone spray to try and waterproof it again. The spray was $15. Our new dog tent was $20 and measures 6x3. I'll make a larger fly which will still cost us next to nothing, and it packs down very small.
I wish my pup could sleep with me, but fear she would shred my prized hammock to pieces with her nails. Now I just hear the soft whines and wimpers as she sits looking at my hammock
I love hiking with my dogs. My concern about having my dog on a line while I'm in the hammock is that we have some nasty creatures, including wild pigs, that come through occasionally at night. I'm still trying to figure out how my pup can hang with me.
Wild pig vs Dog +.45=bacon
If the weather is decent, I have my 70 lb goldendoodle sleep on the ground next to me. On my last trip, however, I had her hop into my hammock and she slept down by my feet. She hardly moved all night and I didn't have any problem with her claws tearing up the hammock.
If you worried about your dog's claws, you can get dog boots or socks that would probably better protect the hammock. I haven't tried them before, but I think I will next time I take mine out.
I am going to get a cheap Coghlans double mosquito net... $10-15... Then I'll modify that so I can use it around my hammock and still have a huge floor for my 2 dogs.
I sleep with at least one, sometimes two dogs in the hammock.
They are small dogs so it is a bit easier but both have sharp claws.
I put a woobie (poncho liner) down as a top quilt/dog blanket and it is sufficient to protect the hammock. Add a bugnet and they are pretty secure on being in a hanging cave.
Using tyvek as a ground cloth with a fleece blanket or poncho liner on the ground works as well but they tend to pay more attention to external happenings/noise and will let out a bark as a warning now and again.
For sure they are harnessed and leashed or on an amsteel run.
I will say this, hammock time = dog nap

I have added 1ft of bug net to the edges of my superfly, gives me a larger bug free zone. Since the net just rests on the ground my britany can enter and exit whenever she likes. Works good for me and the puppy. Designing a bug room to cover one side while the tarp is in porch mode. Should weigh about 1/2 a pound.
