Can I make a tarp solely out of silnylon, or do I also need other fabrics like nylon or something???
I made my black cat out of only Syl
The whole entire tarp has nothing but silnylon, no like nylon corners or other fabric layers for added strength or anything like that?
Like what kind of heavier material??
The local Walmart has only 4yd and 16in worth of Silnylon! Do you guys think that is enough for a tarp. I don't have to make a rectangular tarp. I could make something else, but I'm not sure how I could.
If anyone has an idea as to how I could make a tarp with that much fabric please share.
Please and thank you

it would be long enough but it's not going to be but about 60" wide. you would need two of those.
besides, i'm always suspicious when someone says they found silnylon at walmart. i think some have, but i believe what some have thought was silnylon was actually just a DWR treated 1.1oz ripstop.
speer hammocks is the cheapest place i know to get true silnylon. you can make a large tarp for less than $50.00.
The fabric was just felt a lot lighter than nylon so I assumed... and it looked like the same fabric as my stock HH Tarp.
Under $50, so like 30 or 40 ;) I just don't like to spend more money then it would take. I don't know, it's a habit. Even when I have enough money to get something good... I won't cause I know it's too much for me. Weirdo
Phooey... there are two more Wally's in driving distance of me, so I guess I'll try there first.
aceatc- you're going to spend more money on gas than if you just call the Speers. For $29.75 + shipping you could get enough sil to make a cat cut tarp 10' long. Or you could spend the extra $4.25 and make yourself a full-on BlackCat with a 12' length. So, yeah $30 or $40 and no guessing about the material.
Probably about $6 in gas, maybe like $12.
But yes, odds are really against me finding the material and even if I do it won't say what the heck it is.
Frick!
By the way, how many yards will I need anyways. 5 yards of silnylon, 1yd of ripstop nylon for corner reinforcement? That should do it, right?
i'd say there's a good chance that what you saw at wally world wasn't sil. if not, you'd be wasting more money & effort on a tarp that wouldn't take care of you when you need it most.
scroll down to the "make your own gear" section near the bottom of this page to see the 1.1 silnylon.

is speer cheaper than the 2nd's at quest, it's pretty cheap there. around 5$/yd i think: www.questoutfitters.com
if i was using pull tabs and corner reinforcement fabric i would use polyester grossgrain ribbon. you can get it at joanne's fabric shops or online. they sell up to 2" wide the brand joanne's sells is called "offray" and is good stuff. you can use 1/2" flat weave nylon for the pull tabs themselves.
