Welcome from Arizona.
Welcome to the forum from the French River (I believe N46 W81).
Thanks for all the warm welcomes, folks.
I recognise some of your usernames from some of the threads I've read here, and at least one of you - yes, you, Crown Land aficionado from Huntsville -from another forum where I go to learn.
I'm taking my family camping for the first time (1-1/2 and 4-1/2 year olds, and my wife), and after reading about so many bushcrafters using hammocks, it occurred to me that a hammock might be the perfect spot for the family to lounge around. We're going car camping, not backpacking, and we'll have a tent, so I was just thinking about a place to sit and relax.
So, I read a bit, and ordered an ENO Doublenest. I figured it's be nice and spacious for the two kids and mom to lounge while I work towards my BushcraftUSA Basic cert. Then I read some more. And drank the Kool Aid. Mmmm. Gee, my wife hates mosquitoes, and what with West Nile and all, and the Skeeter Beeter Pro was such a good deal....but then, maybe I should grab a cheapie for the kids, and WHAT?? The Grand Trunk UL is only $18???
Well, I now have lots of 'book learning' under my belt, ha ha, and I think I'll work to pay off the credit card bill before I buy anything else. I'm going to use some Slap Straps that I bought with the ENO DN, but I'll use ratchet straps for the others. I want to protect the trees, and since we're car camping, weight & quick adjustments aren't a concern. At least not as much as gas money!
Cheers, all.
My ENO DN was my first hammock and is still my most used one despite lighter weight ones I have. It's a great lounger for sure and good for the kids because it's a heavier nylon. Be sure to hang your hammock higher than you think because the Slap Straps do stretch quite a bit. Have fun!
