Embroidered HF flags & patches

Thanks to AngrySparrow for finding Devil Woman Flags.

Devil Woman (her real name is Barbara) has machines for embroidering designs on nylon flags. These flags are tough; several of her designs are specifically made for flying from a car window!

Barbara has set up links for ordering two types of flags for HammockForums.net users. Pictured first is a Flag, then a Patch:

The Flag is simply two Patches sewn together.

Barbara will make a 10"X13.5" single sided PATCH to be sewn onto a hammock or tarp, for $10. Click here to purchase an HF PATCH to be sewn.

Barbara will make a 10"X13.5" two sided FLAG to be flown, for $20. Click here to purchase an HF FLAG to be flown.

I have ordered a sample, which will be delivered in a few days.

Looks good and sounds like a good price. Out of curiosity, is any of the cost returned to HF? Is this a "hosted fund raiser" for lack of a better term?

It's not a hosted fundraiser. It's Barbara's business to make flags for clubs this way.

Given the cost of flags, and especially the efforts that can go into embroidering one, I think this is a fantastic deal on a very durable flag.

I was doing some poking around on a kayaker's forum and luckily came across the source. There isn't money in it going back to the forum, but then again we also aren't keeping an inventory of them and there are no up-front costs..

The question was curiosity only... not intended for any kind of critical comment. I agree it is a great deal. I've seen things work both ways is all.

That means I can customize my flag. I'm thinking black background with a red hammocker and red text and maybe a yellow circle....decisions, decisions.

Red text on a black background might be hard to read at a distance?

Devil Woman offers options because she can set up her machines in many different ways... however, making HF flags in different colors really should be with the permission of the owner of the logo. It's with ATtroll's permission that we are making flags using the HF logo in the first place.

Oh good. Cause with the color shown all that would be visible when hung on my tarp would be the logo & the lettering, the flag is nearly the same color as my tarp. :)

HC4U: Red text on Black background is nearly un-readable unless the red is outlined in white. I'm just sayin.

I was going to leave the logo alone, with a yellow flag background & black lettering.

It makes a whole lot of sense to change the background so that it shows up against your tarp!

I guess red on black might be hard to read but it would sure look cool.

I don't have a problem with changing the colors. I would really prefer leaving the HammockForums.net on the flag though.

You know, when I was in Boy Scouts, they were always coming up with fully embroidered patches, some quite large, that we could sew to a flag or banner, or whatever. I think I like the idea of a patch instead of a flag. Then I could sew it to whatever color flag/banner I wanted. And like when my wife moves the furniture around in the living room...for no good reason...I could occassionally sew it to other another color flag! Is the fully embroidered patch idea a possibility? I will check with our local company who does this work and check some costs. I'm curious.

When you add it to your basket, it says "no options available." I assume it might be later in the ordering process when you can request color changes?

I haven't ordered yet, I will once the previous hacker damage gets squared away. Don't know where they got my account info from, but the buggers found my info from someone/somewhere.

BTW, everyone should take a close look at their credit card statements frequently - I only got hit with a $3 charge that I didn't make, but it is an immediate red flag that somebody has gotten your credit card info from some site somewhere you have made a purchase, or from a local business, and they are testing the waters. None of my other cards have been hit yet, but I'm watching very closely.

There have been some very large institutions that have leaked credit info lately, so everyone should be on their toes.

I wonder if that statement on the product page is correct then.

Edit: Following through it would appear that a whip is optionally available with the patch, but not optionally available with the flag. Therefore... there are "no options available". I guess color changes are listed as described above quoted from the product page.

At no point in the ordering process did I get to choose color options.
i assume if there is any opportunity it will be in the follow up email
they send prior to making the flag.

**EDIT** -- found out they send you a confirmation email that
gives you the options to change colors before final ordering.

If you do nothing, you get a grey flag with black text and orange
and black logo.

I went with the basic bone stock model. Figure why change a good thing.

I like BOTH...The black with white lettering AND the white with BLACK lettering...
The black one sort of sings to me tho...

what are the weights on these? for single and double layer...

also can u have the hanging channel on the TOP(long side) of the banner and not the side (short side)? seems more logical for hanging on ridgeline or whatever. or even simply two grommets as hawk-eye has on his and no channel ... just sayin... Peace B)

Not sure the weight ... try to get that later but she'll make it vertical or horizontal ... she's pretty good about doing that.
