Fall MAHHA to relocate! No longer at BRC in Virginia.
By mutual consent of the MAHHA organizers and the Blue Ride Center, it has been decided to move the Fall MAHHA out of the BRC. Both sides tried to make it work, but it was agreed the large size of our group would be detrimental to the primitive camping area that is usually closed to the public.
As people who love the outdoors, the MAHHA organizers believe in the conservation mission of the Blue Ridge Center and we are appreciative of the time and consideration they gave us in trying to make our event work. Especially AB Harris. I know you all will support this decision as well. And I'm glad the concerns were raised months in advance so as not to be a major hassle to people's travel plans.
Announcements will be made when a new hang site is found. We will still try to keep to the 3rd weekend in October, but it all depends on the availability of the new location.
Thanks for your continuing support of the Fall MAHHA through our growing pains! You all are the best!

Understood. Will announcement on new location be made on this thread? Are there any ideas on where it may end up being held?
Thanks for all the hard work that is put into this event.

I believe Green Ridge is state forest land which is more flexible on regulations than state parks. The campsites are fairly spread out though. I will brainstorm and ask around for ideas. Have you looked into any of the MD or VA state parks for group camping capabilities? Are we trying to keep this a "hike in" event still?

Comment on Turkey Run. They do allow hammocks the only restriction is 1 1/2" straps. (New policy this Spring) I have stayed in the group sites at PWSF but not sure if it was TR. Some sites were sparse on usable trees. Nice place with many beautiful trails.

Lots of trees, amphitheater and pleanty of great hiking trails as well as some fishing spots. I havent camped there in a very long time because they didn't allow hammocks. Good to know they have changed their policy finally. Hey OldMart (aka pop), when you want to go hang at PW?
In a couple of weeks. Maybe we can get a pre fall trip going.

I'm thinking we can put wide straps around the tree an put the WBBB strap through that. You can get custom straps at www.strapworks.com.
we hung at Staunton River State Park

Is Someone Taking Point on Oct Hang Site?
Does someone have point for securing us a site for OCT?
I just sent and email to PWF asking if they could accommodate 100+ hangers in the OCT. Will post the reply.
Someone said they downloaded the PDF of PWF rules which permits hammocks. Could you post the link? I couldn't find it but I was working on a iDevice while hanging in my WBBB. Had to seize the day! Gotta Love working remotely!!!
