When this was brought up this Summer several folks said once Fall arrived and the weather cooled down we should have a group hang. Is anyone interested in having one? If so....where would you like it to be held?

"near" helen, and yes. im a georgia native!
I'm definitely interested! And near Helen is great for me since I live 10 minutes from there. There's a North Ga Hang spreadsheet floating around here somewhere for contacting people about hangs. I think it's in ShadowAlphas signature.
I could do that. Don't know much about camping around Helen though.
I'm interested, and glad you brought it up.
ShadowAlpha does have the GEORGIA hang spreadsheet.
Sounds good to me. Keep it going.
Its a bit of a ride but I think I could convince madog to ride up for a group hang!
I will keep an eye on the post.
This is the last weekend of trout season so I'll be hanging the hammock in the Helen area this weekend. I'll scope out a few spots while I'm there.
I'm down for a good hang
I'd be interested...it's a bit of a drive, but I used to live in the Helen area...would love to visit for a hang!
Raven Cliff falls is always a good place.
I'm in for this one
am up for it, but i would need a ride since i don't have a car:)
granny pat, helen is great this time of year. ive camped up there since i was a kid. its worth the drive!
doc, i would expect you to be there. you know there is a secret uga campus up there on 129?
paul, you already know how nice it is up there. ill be going so, feel free to convoy with me.
Are there any sites there big enough to accomodate a group? I saw several sites but none of em jumped out at me as being big enough for a group. Of course I was only looking to see if they were good for one person.
I guess first we need to decide if this is gonna be a hike hang or a park hang. If it's a hike hang how many miles is everyone willing to hike?
we could just hike in to the AT at blood mountain and do a short group hike.
I'm game for anything, short hike, long hike, park hang. Whatever.
I'm interested if the dates fit with my schedule.
I'm in. Plenty of room at Raven Cliffs
The parking lot is plenty big to accomodate us. Unless it's busy with day hikers.
If we do Raven Cliffs are there any rappellers among us? I can bring my gear and we can rap down the falls.
If a person continues down the forest service road about a mile or so, the road crosses a creek (I believe its Dukes Creek). Anyway, there is a large campsite there right before the creek crossing that will accommodate quite a few folks. Lots of trees to hang from.
The Chattooga River is always good too. I am only familiar with the SC side.
I'd live to do this but don't think my schedule will allow, darn it!! Always wanted to visit Helen and love the mountains in the fall! Maybe next year unless this thing turns into an early December hang.
When?
Is there a link to the spreadsheet?
Also, it you walk the Ravin Cliffs Trail right there at the parking lot there is campsite after campsite running along the creek (Dodd Creek? Or something like that - it's not Dukes). It's generally pretty open since most people take the spots up the road where you can have your car at the site. The sites on the trail have trees but are open enough for everyone to gather and socialize.
How about the weekend before Thanksgiving?
Count me in.
no takers on an AT hike. blood mountain to whereever
I would be interested but I have to check with the boss (and work) about scheduling.
If any of you Southern Gents and Ladys would like too....We would be happy to have you here at the Third Annual Florida Hang. It's a few hours drive from most of Southern GA located in Ocala, Fl.

I posted a poll as to what the best weekend would be. Y'all have at it and we'll see which weekend works best for the majority of folks.
Anybody up for hanging at Big Cedar this Saturday? I'll be there regardless.
FWIW for the people in the poll thread not up for a big hike, Raven Cliffs is an easy virtually flat ground hike. The entire trail is 2 or 2.5 miles but the sites are all along it.
I will do my best to partipate, whatever weekend is chosen is fine with me. I don't know the current status of the trail going up to Raven Cliffs as the last I heard, the heavy rains earlier this year really destroyed the trail making very difficult to get up there. I hope this is not the case as I used to hike up and do solo overnighters just before the falls. If anyone is in the area and wants to confirm the situation up there, it would be appreciated by all.
Thanks,
Lazybee
For a big group hang I recommend a site close to the parking lot. Preferrably a parking lot on a network of trails. Those that want to hike can take off and do their thing. Those that want to visit and check out the goodies, can pack in some firewood and cooking supplies, and non-hiking friends, and enjoy a leisurely Saturday...

GA hang, Which weekend works best for you?
There's a similar thread here discussing a North Ga hang. Once firmed up on a date and location, let's make sure we invite those following that thread.
Sort of the same thread. Once I got some responses I set up a poll to see what weekend would work best for most folks. Heading out this afternoon and will check out a few more spots that might work well for a group hang.
Sounds like the news on the trail condition is good after all, I am glad hear that! There used to be a series of wooden footbridges on the trail to the falls, at the FIFTH bridge, there is /was a little thicket to the right. If you walked through it opened up to a fairly large open area that we camped many times. It was not right on the trail but off about 50 to 75feet off the actual trail. It has been over 6 years since I was up there. Wasn't a hanger back then, but there were trees. If anyone goes up there and wants to check this spot out may be a consideration.
