My daughter wanted a hammock so tonight we made her a hot pink and white hammock. The commercial machine is at my office so we used the back up machine. A pristine singer 66 trundle converted to electric. It was made in 1910 and still is an absolute joy to use. If fact it is my favorite thing to sew with. There is something awesome about creating something from nothing on a piece of history. Will post pics of hammock later. But just wanted to share the experience of using the old machine.
Awesome! My injector is "only" 72 years old. Someone would have to come up with something seriously nice for me to part with it. It's just not the history, but the craftsmanship of machines back then.

Wow! My grandmother had one of those. It was never converted to electric. I used to play with it when I was a kid in the 1950's to see how fast I could get it to go. I never broke it!
Too bad the I don't know what happened to it when she passed away. Hopefully someone, somewhere is using it to make a hammock. :)
I have a very old treadle machine that was my grandmother's wedding present. I haven't sewed on it yet, though I did find a leather belt to replace the original.
I want a treadle machine pretty baddly. My BF's mom has a 66 that was upgraded to electric, and an older treadle only. They belonged to his grandmother.
Great thread, it's makin me want to get the old treddle machine back in service that I learned to sew on as a child.

What a great machine! It did eat my first hammock though :(
After a that hiccup, it been stitching better than the new machine and will sew leather as well as 0.9 ripstop. I love using it.

A good day to pay homage to the power of treadle sewing machines.
Learned on a Singer Featherweight.
Mother, an artist / designer, made beautiful original dresses, upholstery, window treatments
and ( before baggies ) we sewed sheet plastic into many size plastic bags for camping gear.
Expect I must have been sewing by six.
Mother then got a Singer 301A.1956 ?
My first sewing machine : Singer treadle, $3 at an estate auction when I was twelve.1958
Lots of control on the treadle action. Remember how fast it could go.
Would take out the needle and have speed races with my brother.
At 16 bought a cheap portable singer.
Many decades later, Mother gave me her old machine Singer 301A.
This is a love affair with a thread injector : I even like to repair the inside pockets on my husband's pants.
We have a 1929 Singer electric, my husband's grandmother's.
FREE to anyone with the skills to bring it back to life. I understand bed-quilter's like these.
It appears to be all there, just unused for 40 or 50years. Lots of work.
