Thanks for the help guys...calculating...
i have a BMJ with a door kit, best of both worlds, love this piece of gear
boot
I agree. I just purchased the BMJ door kit even though my first trip went well. I had 3-4 days of sunny and dry weather so it was nice not having the doors or extra material. I'm not a gram weenie but I enjoy leaving unnecessary items at home. I think I'll take my door kit in the future if there's a good chance of storms or rain/wind.
I have a spinn BMJ and the door kit. Weighs about the same, or a bit less than the Superfly...and I leave all or two of the doors home most of the time.
Thanks again guys...I ordered my silnylon BMJ yesterday! Woo-hoo! Being in the southeast I thought the Superfly to be overkill for my needs. I can always order doors if that turns out not to be the case. Any idea on Brandon's turn around on tarps? I have yet to be contacted. Also, I asked if he could supply a bishop sack instead of a regular stuff sack....then I started thinking I already knew that it came with one  I think my brain is fried from researching too much! Does anybody know what he normally supplies?
My superfly came with a stuff sack that could easily be converted into a bishop bag but I prefer the snakeskins. I camp in the winter a lot here in Ga. and really like being able to close off the superfly to block the wind. If it came down to it I could have done the same thing with the bmj by adding doors.
I have a BMJ and love it ! Up here in the northeast it works out fine. I really like the porch mode. Great for rainy conditions. I am going on a solo overnighter in the Berkshires this weekend and it is supposed to rain the whole time. What I do is carry the tarp in the top of my pack. When I find a cool site i can set the tarp up then hang my blackbird out of the rain. very cool ! Good choice .
