We're on 1 1/2 acres and we're the smallest lot on the mountain.
There's a road down the hill which has some traffic, but it dies out after about 9pm. Two of the neighbors have roosters. I dream of shooting them every single morning for the past 7 years.
Ear plugs are good.
I was surprised at how noisy my backyard is in my sleepy residential neighborhood. My house is well-insulated and really quiet. I occasionally here my dog bark (he lives outside), but I did realize there are 6-8 distinctive dog voices in my neighborhood (maybe more) and they carry on a conversation off and on all night. Also have the occasional motorcycle or loud truck (we live 300 yards from a fairly major road). Lots of teenagers in the neighborhood, so some comings and goings (voices, laughing, car doors slamming) until 2am or so on the weekends.
Guess I'm feeling pretty lucky compared to a some of you. I live in a very old subdivision on a dead end street on the outskirts of Atlanta so it's pretty quiet all of the time. Day or night.
That said, I usually don't sleep outside unless I'm testing gear. However, I did spend the last two nights hanging under my "new" modified Etowah tarp. Gotta love it :D
