Advice for using my ENO for the first time

What would you suggest for my first night in an ENO?

I have used Hennessy hammocks before but really want to use my ENO dbl nest.

I need gerneral first use advice, but I am mainly concerned with insulation for 50° nights.
I have a few ccf and self inflating pads, but don't like the way they slip out from under me as I toss and turn.

any other tips would be very helpful


I plan to get an underquilt, but for now I must make due untill I have the money and make up my mind on which UQ.







(by the way I found out that holding the Alt key and typing 0176 and letting go of the Alt key produces a ° symbol)

I also own a few dbl nests and would like to try to modify one with insulation built in, any ideas on that.

You could try putting dots of silicone all over the pad, and that may add enough traction to keep it from slipping around on you.

I have found hanging a sleeping under my eno works really well. Open it, then tie paracord to each corner. Tie three corners where you'd think they go, leaving a opening to get in. After you get in with a blanket tie the fourth corner over your head. Warm and easy to use.

Later I added mini biners so the sleeping bag just clips on but that took a lot of adjusting to get to work. When it's really cold I pea pod which is the same as above but you zip up the bag.

If you are in the market for a new sleeping bag Id look at the Big Agnes systems. These are great for hammocks as you never slip off your pad (there's a sleeve that you slide your pad into that's the bottom of the bag). I toss and turn like crazy and have never once had even a foot drop off my pad because the Big Agnes bags work so well. That's probably not the solution you were looking for but figured I'd throw it out there.

Gotta watch the carabiners that come with the ENO. They have a habbit of "biting" the material of the hammock when packed and can put some small wholes in it.

What straps are you using to secure it to the trees? I use the Slap Straps (just ordered the new Atlas Straps but don't have them yet). They work great and are very easy to use, but they do stretch. For that reason I personally set my hammock much higher then normal. It's almost at eye level when Im setting it up but when I pull down on it and get in it, it has me a good foot and a bit off the ground. Then I wake up and at times my butt is scraping off the ground. Again this is due to the stretch in those straps.

Don't shy away from using it as a chair! This thing is SO comfy for just sitting in it (sideways).

I can't sleep without a pillow but a normal pillow in a hammock is way too big (in my opinion). I have a very thin fleece pillow that I find works great for hammocks.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the ENO vs the Hennessy. My first hammock was the Hennessy Expedition Asym but now that I have my ENO doublenest I don't really use my Hennessy. I find the ENO much more comfortable.

Some great advice I got early on from this forum for my DN for a better hang was to hang the foot end higher than the head end(something a lot of hangers do regardless of their hammock choice). It really seems easier to find my sweet spot this way in this comfortable but shorter hammock.

Also ditched those carabiners right away.

Redolary that is some awesome advice seriously that really could work.

For the CCF pads the best thing I have found is the segmented pad extender, or SPE. I used them for years before I had the underquilts. I made mine with the main body being fleece and the wings ripstop nylon. This allowed them to stay in place and added a measure or warmth and moisture wicking.

Before I tried this (essentially a permanent change to your hammock that you may not like) I'd use something like this:

While the silicone dots are an excellent idea, I've used this stuff to keep my sleeping bag from sliding off of my inflatable sleeping pad when I was sleeping in a tent. Good stuff, and might work for this application.

SPE is actually your best option I agree with rat althogh silicon dots are nice and so is no slip fabric we hangers have stuck with SPE for one awesome reason they provide warmth to your shoulders. If you don't want to make one you can buy one at ENO website I wish speer would sue eno and sell their own but yeah that is generally what works if you have an inflated pad make sure to deflate it a bit so it can conform the hammock.
