chicago backpacking?
hey hammockers in/near chicago.
i'm looking for any advice on backpack trails near chicago. i've trained/biked to a few state parks, but am looking for more solitude, the type a true backpacking adventure offers.
any suggestions??
**of course, those offering perfect trees reqd**:shades:

two hrs north and there is the kettle moraine southern unit, which has the ice age trail, down fall is that you gotta reserve the shelters or stealth it, i know there are some forest preserves around your area, A hf member ohms, he seems to know them well, great gent he is as well. rock cut state park is kinda close but hiking is very limited to short day hikes,

on Tue Aug. 13, 09 Chdgo. Trib. section 5, three hikes around Forrest preserves in Palos. prob call trib for reprint.---Book, Menasha Ridge Press --60 hikes within 60 miles of Chicago. incl Ind. Dunes, National dunes next to the INd. dunes, Starved Rock etc. if you get out from the trail heads it can get quite solitary. Stealth camping can be rewarding!!

You can drive East on 80/90 and then hit some lower Michigan spots or you have Garden of the Gods in Northern Ill. not too far from Chicago.
