What type of cord works best for tying out a tarp? Size, material and supplier would be a great help.
Thanks.....

I'm partial to this TripTease knockoff cording. The Speer no-tangle guyline(scroll down) is popular here too.
go to Quest Outfitters and purchase the chartruese with turquoise tracers line. It doesnt stretch (noticable over 10' section), and Ive held a 120# weight from it.
#2507 nylon, $0.25 a yard. 50yds would be $12.50 But quest will ship it USPS for around $1.75
cant beat that!
The cheap alternative is Mason Line at Home Depot.
I use 550 paracord from any local outfitter. I think it's 7 cents per foot. You can strip out the insides as well to make it lighter and it'll still be really strong.
Check you local Walmart I use the 550 cord there it's $1.49 for 50ft. It's in the sporting goods dept.with the camping supplies.
I'm partial to the Kelty Triptease Guyline I get from REI. I'm blind as a bat when the sun goes down so anything at all that helps is a good idea as far as I'm concerned. You can see it HERE It's $15.00 for 50 feet.
I like Samson Lash-it, it is a fraction of the weight of paracord (and stronger), doesn't absorb water like paracord, doesn't stretch, and is the right size to tie slingshot tarp tensioners with green theraband tubing.

I like the gossamer gear cord
Wow that is alot of choices, I bet that didn't narrow down your search very much. If you go with any of those fine suggestions you can't go wrong.
Lot's of choices, thanks for the suggestions.
Make life easy and be sure to put some self tensioners on whatever line you choose.....They really improve the tuatness, all through the nite given silnyl's propensity to stretch a little... somewhat quieter too.
Pan
The defender.com site does not list the length of the spool. But then, neither does the manufacturer, Sampson. Go figure.
I did a bit more googling and found what I suspect is the same thing, the spool length is 180', and the price is significantly less than any other listing I've seen for this stuff.
I've not seen this stuff yet, but will next week <grin>
Grizz
[LATER] - guess not. These folks are essentially wholesalers. They got back to me and offered to sell me a case (of 12) of these spools. I'm not that interested in it!
Then go with the 600' spool. The stuff is great. I bought a 600' spool from APS when they had their annual sal and paid approx. $100 w/shipping and thought that price was great.
The link you gave has the 600' spool for $71, add shipping and that is a great price. With 600' it will be at least 1 year before I would have to buy another spool - yes I use a LOT of guy line for all kinds of uses.
The reflective Campmor stuff holds knots really well. I think Triptease slides around in its sheath too much. The Speer No-tangle is also good stuff, holds knots well and lives up to its name. Gossamer Gear sells some good orange cord very similar to it. The stuff the Jacks use in their guylines is pretty good, too.
I mixed a batch of silicone and mineral spirits to use for making ripstop into sil (search for posts on make your own sil, last page or so). I dropped 20 or so feet of Mason's line into the left over, let it soak a little bit, then dry. Why? to see if it made it "stiffer", it did, to see if it prevents fraying, it does, to see if it makes knots too slippery to be useful, it does not. Would I go out and mix a batch of sil just for this? Probably not, but I do have 20' to play with and use.:)
