Overstuffing
Can i ask for some advice on ordering extra ozs of down when ordering UQs and TQs. I'm thinking of getting a 0* Incubator and 20* Burrow to cover all eventualities. I can vent the UQ if it gets to warm.
I see many people adding a couple of extra oz to their order to overstuff their quilts. What would be the benefit of adding 2 extra oz to a 20* quilt compared to the standard stuffed 0* quilt? What sort of temp rating would a 20* incubator have with 2 extra oz of down?
I'm wondering if a 20* incubator with 2oz extra down would be a better option than the std. 0* version. I'm unlikely to use it down to 0*F in the UK.
I'm guessing that the answer will be a 10* incubator that weighs 2 oz less than the 0*, is this about right?
Thanks in advance. I want to get my choice right first time.

overstuffing can be misleading .... 2oz is max IMO
any more and there is no real gain 2oz overstuff will give you a few degrees more warmth but 2inch baffles are still 2inch baffles and down can only loft with the airspace provided ;)
some members have taken overstuffed quilts down below there rating but rating will differ from person to person and IMO it's not safe to rely on a 20F TQ in 3F weather
if you getting a 20F TQ with 2oz of overstuff it's still a 20F TQ with a little more down
just my take on it ...

FWIW, I have a 0* Incubator and an over stuffed (+3oz) 20* Incubator. I would take the 0 down to zero, but not the over stuffed 20. For the overstuffed 20, I would go no lower than 10-15*F.
I'm a cold sleeper.

Thanks for the advice, it makes the decision a lot easier. Overstuffing just adds a little comfort but doesn't re-rate the quilts temp rating. I'll go for the 0* incubator and speak to Adam to see whether i need any overstuffing, but I don't think I will.
Thanks again.

Good choice. I believe that the 0* will have slightly bigger baffles too, but check w/ Adam.

yeah it doesn't re-rate the quilt at all. like i said down can only loft as much as the airspace given ...

I thought the temp rating came from the loft not the ounces of down in the quilt. I believe there is a really long thread that goes over this exact topic better.
