Test hung the Mammajamba

I finally had a chance to get out and string up my new tarp. I loaded the dog into the car and headed over to Thompson Park in Monroe Township. The park has some great trails and the dog needed a walk. I also decided to test my tablecloth.com hammock. A few of things I discovered.

1: Colgan Poly Rope is garbage. Don't buy it, I tossed it as soon as I got home. I was going to use it as a ridge line for the tarp, but it started to fray the minute I put around a tree. I replaced it with 1/8" Diamond Braided Polypropylene Line from Attwood.

2: I need to make a set of whoopie slings for my DIY hammock. I figured the tree straps that I brought along would be more than enough. One strap was about six feet long the other was about four. I made it work, but whoopie slings would have made things easier.

3: I'm glad I have a Python Skin being made for the tarp, it'll make life easier in the future when it's time to pack up.

4: I really need to count my stakes before I leave. DOH!!! Left one behind.

5: I should have taken more pictures. I'll take more on my hike this week and post them in my trip report. I might even try a video.

Looks real nice. I'm getting the same tarp soon. Did you find it pretty straightforward to setup?

Nice looking tarp. That thing is a monster. Glad you were able to get out. I haven't been to Thompson Park but might get out there this week some time and check it out. Beauty of a dog too.

I hve been using a BMJ for a couple of years now and it is a very nice tarp

Perfect addition to your hammock set-up. I have the same tarp and have used it many times with great satisfaction. I see you have the panel pull outs - don't forget to seam-seal the panel pull-outs from the inside. I also purchased a amsteel ridgeline with knot bones, prusik loops and mini biners from whoopieslings.com. Ti stakes round out the set-up.

I was thinking about putting in a center pole mod but that is what the panel pull outs are suppose to do with less weight.

Can't say enough about my mamajamba, great tarp, and very reliable and easy to set up.

I just got the same tarp, but haven't had a chance to set it up. Just curious, what length line are you using on the corners and ridge line. Thanks

My MJ was shipped today. I cannot wait until it gets here.

There's a video on the warbonnet website under setup and he uses a total of 76' of line on MJ without doors:

4 12 ft lines (ridge line, side pulls in "loop")
2 6 ft lines (Side pull support to ground)
4 4 ft lines (corners)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong...
