snake skins are definitely "seconds" quality. In the long haul I think you will experience increasing failure of that seam. The hammock itself is cosmetic IMO. I wouldn't worry about that. Mass production will often allow that kind of thing to pass as first quality when the DIY or cottage industries might not. But by the time you have used the hammock a few times you will probably some other "flyers" that pop out. Not a problem in my book.
That being said.. I have found HH to be very reliable with customer service. I would certainly give them a heads up.

Ok then. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'll see about that snake skin and ignore the frays like I initially was planning to do.
Maybe this will be a good excuse for me to learn how to make my own snake skins. Just a thought :laugh:

dont worry about the green strands that are frayed. cut them off (CAREFULLY!) or burn them very quickly with a small lighter.
the snakeskin looks like a flaw you should not ignore. send it back.
