I read about this being used as tarp guylines on another forum. It's made from braided Dacron, and comes in 135 & 200 lb test. I'm gonna head to Sportsmans Warehouse tomorrow to check it out. But I was wondering if anyone here had already tried it? You can get it cheaper than this link, it was just a good pic.

This would be excellent for guylines! :thumbup1: I'm not sure what Ed Speer's no-tangle line is made from, but since I've bought and used braided Dacron for fishing, both ice and as planer board material and since I just came into possession of the Ed Speer's no-tangle line, it seems they are very similar. I don't know that they are the same, but I knew that line seemed familiar. Excellent catch! I love finding things like this!:wuv::wuv:You could go below 130#, though - if you can find it.
I have used the 130 lb line in bright green for years with great results, it will even do well using a taught line hitch for adjustment. The color is great also, easy to see.
Is it rigid enough to resist tangling?
Oh yeh, that stuff should work excellent. I've used the stuff for years with offshore tackle. Stretch is minimal, it's got good body to it and it's tight woven enough that should a tangle or knot develop it can be pulled out pretty easily. ;) Never seen it in any color but primary white with green tracer. High vis green would be awesome.
I've used that stuff, in the lighter weight and a bright yellow color. Good visibility at night. It does tangle quite a bit but works fine. I use it with linelocs.
i thought ed's was spectra/dyneema with a poly cover
i've used briaded polyester before and it seems to work well (dacron is name brand polyester) i think like others have pointed out, what makes a good guyline is low stretch and being stiff enough so it doesn't tangle and snag easily. polyester stretches more than dyneema, but i've never had problems from the little amount that it does stretch.
i just ordered some of the 135# to check out, hopefully it's nice and stiff, shure is cheaper than braided dyneema

well it did come today.
it certainly is quite stretch resistent and the color is nice (orange), but it's very limp, alot like mason line. so i'll use it some but i think it's going to more prone to tangling that a stiffer line which is the main thing with me.
it's "cortland" brand and others might have different characteristics i don't know.

Maybe this has been discussed elsewhere, but I found some line that looks similar to that initial link but is pretty stiff and extremely inexpensive.
Wellington Marine Utility Line, 1/8th inch. Diamond Braided Polypropylene (30lb working load). A small 45ft spool is 1.88 at Wal-Mart in the Boating section. I've found it in pink / green / orange (all neon).
There's no stretch, it's light, and does not tangle.

Bought a spool of planer board line and Bass Pro, it's the #200 orange type and I love it!
I use it for a CRL and guy lines or anywhere I need a good utility line. 150' for $11.00 is hard to beat.
I bought some of this http://www.amazon.com/Woodstock-130-.../dp/B003XKFFB8 and it is great stuff, the only thing for me is that it is too small for the small figure9s I use for my tarp ridgeline. I might try the 200lb stuff for my tarp ridgeline.
I bought a spool of this from Bass Pro years ago and just found it today. I whipped up a loop with a locked brummel and it was very easy to work with. It did seem to tangle a little bit but it wasn't too bad to fix it. Just had to shake it out a little bit. I think I am going to use this for tarp tie outs.
I was eyeballing some on a fishing charter I took last summer. It felt like dynaglide to me, but it was under tension out to the plainer boards. I asked the captain about it, he said he likes the braided better than the plastic variant.
When I bought it, I thought it was the stuff that Ed Speer used to sell and when I got it home and took the wrapper off the spool I was sad to see that it wasn't the same stuff. I'm glad I found it again and returned it to a place of prominence in the man's room of manly stuff.
I love the stuff! If there's anybody who doesn't want theirs, I'll take it.
Is this similar to the backing line used on a fly real?
I bought mine from Bass Pro. I have been using it for guy lines, food bag, and whipping the ends of table cloth hammocks. When splicing it, I have been using the same needle that I use for working with the Amsteel 7/64. It is a little snug, but no real issues.

I use the copper wire from a coaxial cable doubled over. Works really well on this stuff for doing buries. I use a knitting needle for brummels.Quote:
