I've had great results with Ed Speer's stuff...it stretches when it's new, but pretty much stays stretched out after you use it a few times.
I used polyester straps at the SEHHA and I was surprised how little they stretched.
You should only have to adjust it once or twice when you first use it. Lay in the hammock for a little while and then go back and re-tighten the straps. You may have to do this again.
If you are using trees that are spaced far apart, meaning that you have a longer length of webbing between the hammock and the tree, you may have to tighten the straps more often until they stretch out.
I second that. I use these, and have been very pleased with them. Almost no stretch at all.
That is the optimal for Ed's hammocks. I like to hang my HH about 15-18'. About 5-6 paces. However, I've had to go over 20' a couple of times. NBD, but the rope stretches a little more. I have to hang it higher to compensate so that I don't end up dragging. Just some of the fun stuff that you learn over time!
The farther apart your tie-outs are the more sag you will get. You will also get a different feel if the head and foot end of your hammock tie-outs are different lengths to the trees.
I try to find trees 15'-ish apart. I think If I want I can setup with trees close to 30', depending on the diameter of the trees. Sometimes I like to hang in the cool places.
I WAS using ENO Slap Strap Pro's. Please avoid them at all costs, but that's just my opinion. They may work just fine and dandy for others. At the SEHHA hangout, I wound up going to sleep early and woke up around midnight with my butt on the ground. No one will admit to getting a good chuckle out of it, although I'm sure they did. :D I bought some polyester straps close to the ones HC uses, but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. I may take an overnighter next week and see how they go.
I think he means if the hammock is not centered between the trees it is tied to, the area (head or foot) that has more webbing between the hammock and tree will sag more than the end the has the shorter length of webbing between the hammock and tree.
I try to center my hammock when I set up, but sometimes things like rocks, underbrush, or the general lay of the terrain ( like hills, dips, or drop-offs) will cause me to tie one end of the hammock closer to a tree than the other side.
I never paid any attention to doing that. I just strapped one side to a tree and strapped the other side to a tree. Never looked to see if it was centered. Mostly I made sure it was under the tarp
I used ENO slapstraps for a while - the regulars, not the pros - and they stopped stretching so much after a while. I just didn't like the design - too heavy and not enough attachment points.
Strapworks has polyester webbing. Anyone tried that?

Yeah I was talking about centering. Usually close is good enough.
In terms of height, I usually hang my foot end about a foot higher than my head end. Feels good to have the feet inclined and keeps me from sliding in my hammock.
OK, I understand the stretch issue with Nylon. What is the pros/cons of Polyester and Polypropylene?
I learned the hard way. I bought this http://www.rei.com/product/603006
From REI, it was 1 inch nylon webbing, hooked my $19 Byer hammock to it, stretched it pretty good the second try because it sagged the first time. I sat down and was shot out of it like a rocket. It stretchs and then returns for the next round. Good thing my neighbors weren't home, they'd still be laughing. You could probably launch rocks out of the county using it as a slingshot.
Lately for testing purposes I have been using that yellow floating polypro rope that is used for water skiing and typing up boats. It does not stretch, I made tree huggers from the webbing and now the stretch is just about right.
Eventually I'll get some "Proper" webbing for my tie offs.
Later, Gumby
BTW if you go to http://www.strapworks.com They have a chart about webbing that compares their characteristics. Thanks angrysparrow for the link.

Has anyone tried using the polypro webbing from Hobby Lobby? I was thinking about making the ring buckle suspension for my HH and it would be much easier to pick some webbing up from Hobby Lobby than order it offline...I may buy some and test it. Plus it comes in pretty colors such as hot pink, lime green and shades of blue :) Hmmm...
