Hello from Jersey!

Hey guys!

Found this site from Shug's videos - couldn't stop watching them & ended up watching all 9 parts.

I've been tent camping for a few years now on the AT here in Jersey, PA, and NY and haven't had too many issues. My buddy and I have been thinking of getting hammocks instead just due to how rocky the terrain here is and hammocks just look more comfortable. I've been thinking of going with the Hennessy Hammocks (ultralight) but then started reading about the Warbonnets and am now torn.

We've been backpacking for a while now but I do not consider myself an expert by any means. Most of my equipment is store bought and I enjoy that predictability. With that said, I like how the Hennessy comes as one main package including the fly, tent, and snakeskin whereas the Warbonnet looks a bit more complex but has great features like the foot area and the shelf.

Also, what would you guys recommend - side zip or bottom entry?

Welcome from the Jersey Shore! If you're torn between Warbonnet and Hennessy, wait till you become more educated about all the other hammock vendors and what their models have to offer.

Then there are tarps, underquilts and topquilts to ponder, suspension options (straps vs. whoopie slings) - it never ends!

We've had a lot of Jersey folk joining lately. Must be something in our water. Welcome!

My main goal right now is to find a great hammock that can act as a platform for me down the road.

At the moment, I am looking at a Blackbird double layer with adjustable webbing suspension and a superfly tarp. I'll also take a look at under quilts.

Good choice, that's what I've got. Probably one of the best combos available. If you don't like it you can resell it on here for practically what you paid for it.

Welcome to the forum. You watched all 9 of Shug's videos in one sitting? I could have sworn there more, but then again it's fun to revisit the original 9 over some popcorn. You'll learn, laugh, learn some more, laugh some more, cry a bit, learn, laugh... well, you get the picture.

Ron (Knotty) is also from NJ and he has tons of knowledge so get a coiffee, be a sponge and soak it up.

If you buy the WB hammock, no doubt you will not be disappointed.

That said, apparently this is a journey, buy some hammock, maybe think about buying another hammock, learning about diy hammocks, ponder the convenience, cost & quality of cottage hammocks, wonder about the comfort of bridge hammocks, become overwhelmed at all the possible modifications, enhancements, tweeks and innovations from the HF community and the next thing you know you are ordering weird color tablecloths from some online fabric wholesaler and muttering about whipping a larkshead or something.

And just when you think it's over, you are off to your local box store to buy some lumber and gate hinges for something called a turtlelady.

Do not be afraid, this is all normal....apparently. :D
