Georgia Newbie
Hi, just wanted to say thanks for all of the excellent information this forum provides. I recently had an idea to hike some of the AT here in Georgia and was looking for a lightweight tent. No way I could afford those prices though.Through my searching I found this site. Everything looks so interesting so I gave it a go. Check out my $20 experiment..
Hammock - $6.50 3 yds. (unknown fabric from WM (burn test seems to be poly)
Straps - $4.00 6' WM
Shower Curtain Tarp - 2 from dollar store - $2
Fiberglass Tape - 2 rolls from dollar store - $2
Duct Tape - $4 (already had)
Parachord - $2 WM
Going to test it out and see if I like it. If so, will go ahead and invest in a good tarp, rs hammock, and amsteel for the suspension.
Thanks,
Don

Watch the paracord since it can stretch considerably and possibly the straps if they are nylon but you have quite and interesting set up! Hello and Welcome from Canada and good luck on the trek!

Welcome to HF! Great looking set up you put together. The Ga sections of the AT have some tough hiking, good luck with them. Look for a Ga group hang coming this Fall. Should be fun.

Welcome from North Ga. That setup is dirtbagging at its finest!

Welcome aloft from SC. Ya gotta love duct tape... Nice looking setup, and as a previous poster stated, paracord will stretch, you may wake up with your butt touching the ground.

That's the spirit! Great set up.
Welcome to the forum from another Georgian. Lots of good folks and info here. I completed the AT in Georgia this past spring and can not remember a place where you could NOT hang. Enjoy.
