CCF Pad reccomendations?

Looks like there are only a few choices for hammock pads. I'd love some pointers.

I'm guessing thinner is better for comfort?
I'm guessing wider is better for insulation?

I started looking for wide pads online and with the addition of Brandon's reccomended sites, I found these:

One other option is to search the web for local foam & fabric shops. You can often find one relatively close. Most of the time these shops will have a decent selection of thickness and widths to choose from, and you can get it cut to whatever length you need.

Just another possible choice & could save ya some coin.

I use a Wallyworld 24" wide pad for $12. Pictrure of one being used in my BB 1.7 double

41" wide is plenty considering that is the width of my widest under quilt, which more than covers my 6'-1", 200 pound frame.

Hmmn... I just found out about Molly Mac and his underquilts/hammock socks, has anyone used these? What are the pro's and con's compared with a typical down underquilt? Additionally does using a hammock sock mean I don't have to put up a rain tarp or get any other bottom insulation in 30 degree weather?

did you see the weight of the double Hinman=10 pounds!

I do have a single-layer hammock sock. I got it primarily to use as a supplement to my UQ, honestly less for the IX and more for the "micro-climate" from the sock top.

The sock is somewhat water-resistant but not waterproof, and has openings at both ends that rain or snow can get into... I'd want at least a small tarp in any rain to speak of or anything more than a snow flurry. I've never tried it without my UQ so I can't yet speak to what temperatures it's good to used that way. You can order the sock with additional layers of IX if you're looking to use it without an additional UQ or pad.

Regarding IX UQs:
Pros- similar weight to down for comparable rating, cost
Cons- Packs larger than a similar-rated down UQ, not very breathable

Festus, thanks a million for the explanation that really helped. I think I'm gonna go with the under pad solution for now and then save for an underquilt.
