April 13-15 in Hot Springs. I plan to go if I'm in town...these things are great for meeting people and checking out new gear.
yep, i plan to go. ...tim
I would like to go but I will be finishing my first section hike of the AT in Ga on the 13th. I have to bring my hiking partner back to Nashville so they can catch a Sunday flight out.
I'll be there unless something monumental comes up.
I would love to go but I am doing the Foothills Trail starting the 9th and should be finishing up by then. Dont think Household 6 will appreciate me being gone the whole weekend too. Maybe next time. BD
I'll be there to.
Hey, there's a pretty good possibility I'll be hiking into Hot Springs about this time. If I'm in that neck of the woods...I'll definitely be there for a few zeros!! I won't be the total newbie this time! haa haa
I will be driving over on Saturday again -- and may bring one of the elders from my church who is getting into hammocking (just got a Hennessy). I will bite the toes of anyone who tells him how good I am at photoshop :D
Michele, I can get to Hot Springs via the Fontana area or via 441 / Newfound Gap Check your PMs for my home phone in case you need a ride from one of those.
I will be in St. Louis, Mo., running the Spirit of St. Louis Marathon that weekend. I'll be thinking about you all resting comfortably in your hammocks at the banks of a nice cool river. Maybe I'll be able to come next time around. Take lots of pictures and videos!
can't wait to get there hot spring is a great town. just meet ed speers today. one of the nices guy you would like to meet. plus he took the time to explain a lot about gear and hammonk setups over two hours and all i was buying was sil for a tarp. man he has some great looking products might have to drop the diy and go to the di buy heheheh :D
Ok I am a little slow. My new ATC Companion doesn't list the milage to to Hot Springs. I am thinking it will be 150ish. That puts it at 15-18 days out from Springer. If I am not well north of there with my March 18-ish start date, I'll try to make it.
I joined the yahoo hammock group (get on about once every week or so to lurk) about the same time I joined here. I have never seen him push his hammock or the other products he sells. If I was to buy sometype of hammock or gear it would probably be from him because of how he acts and represents himself.
Ill second that!!!!!!!!!!
Yep - Ed's definitely a classy guy. He welcomes any kind of info on his forum b/c as hammocking gains more popularity in general, even if it's not directly with his products, he'll still benefit from the overall gain (his words, paraphrased). He rarely even comments on his own products unless asked directly.
I agree with you guys. He offered last fall to help me set up my HH. I would have took him up on it, but I was still practicing setuping it up.
He did help me to pick out a great set of trees. One had the mythical 3 leaved vine on it, but that is another story. He did stop me from using the dead tree though.
Classy guy.
I'm with you too. Besides being one of the first in the hammocking field and still one of the most innovative, he's by far one of the all-around NICEST guys I've ever met. I'm really looking forward to Hot Springs.
in a recent email, he mentioned some "new" cold weather gear he's been testing.
maybe we'll get to see it soon!
You guys are going to end up talking me into going. I am setting at a 40% chance of starting March 18th and a 60% chance of April 1st. April 1st would put me really close to walking in.
Man how to other people deal with such problems.:p
can't say but I think you will :)
Just get a ride up to the campout, then a ride back to where you left off. You don't have to miss any blazes that way.
yep, if you can get a ride to hot springs, one of us will take you back on sun.
Looks like I have a change in plans and most likely will NOT be running the St. Louis marathon. So I may be able to make it to Hot Springs after all! :)
Cool. Any word on how many people are going to be there? If I remember right there was only so many places to hang in the site where we were at last fall. Ed said last fall he could bring stands if needed.
It might be a good idea for us to get a good count and let Ed know. That way everyone can plan accordingly.
The newsletter says:
I think it would be a good idea to give Ed a head count. A poll may be in order to get and accurate count.Quote:
Trees are available for about 15 hammocks, so please bring hammock stands if you have them--we will also provide stands (contact us to reserve one).
I am going to contact him about a reserving a stand. Should we reserve a campsite?
it's a large group site next to the french broad river that the whole group spreads out on.
ed brings a large pole shelter that has room for a picnic table or two & a bunch of chairs.
we were pushing it's limits last fall trying to get everyone (most w/ chairs) under it during a rain shower, but it wouldn't be hard to extend it w/ a large tarp.
it's nice to have a large social area to hang out under & talk if it rains.
i'll plan to bring a hammock stand (two if needed).
I'd like to be there... I start my AT thru-hike on Sat, Mar 10... don't know if I'll be in Hot Springs by then.. how far from Springer is it?
I also have a really big nylon tarp that set up with aluminum poles. I think it's like 13' x 13' cat cut tarp . I can bring it. We can set up a tarp city.
Hammock Engineer is hiking in from Springer too. Might see if you can hook up with him as the date nears.
thanks... at 230 miles I might be there by then as slow as I hike <grin>
Hey 2 fingers....I'll be right behind you...starting on March 12. I've looked at a lot of people's journals from year's past and it seems many of them are getting to Hot Springs at right around the 1 month mark, so you and I might have it timed perfectly. If not, I'm sure finding a ride won't be too big of a deal. Good luck!!! Hope I run into ya out there or see you at the hang out!
