This site has down coats and sweaters all the time. Name brand stuff around $80, non-popular brands but probably of like quality around $60.
JCP has their puffer down jackts on sale for $45. 650 fp down. I've purshase two. 12 oz total. Very warm. You can't beat the price and value.
I went for the JCPenny's down "puffer jacket" too. . .they just got the "tall" sizes in the stores. . .the fit on the regulars was a little weird.
GoLite .....
So do the tall sizes in the JCP puffer fit more like normal?
I would say yes, slightly slimmer than "normal."
I'm just over 6' and weigh about 185-190 lbs. 98% of the time I wear a XL top. With the puffer jacket I had to go to an XXL to get the sleeve length and it was quite baggy in the torso. I almost went with that until I saw the tall sizes. I went with the XLT(all) and it fits pretty well. The cut is not perfect, but much closer to normal.
I snagged a JCP one as well. so far, I am pretty impressed! For the price...really impressed!!!
I just snagged the GoLite Bitterroot jacket. Great Deal!

I'll have to go check JCP tomorrow.
Great! I need a large and my local JCP only has 2XLT and bigger. Oh well.
I'm selling this. It's a Mountain Hardwear "Downtown" down filled jacket. Originally sold for $325.00. The color is Otter which is actually like some sort of brown. There are no stains or defects of any kind on this jacket. It even smells new.
For addl description see the product description on REIs web page.

This jacket was worn to check for fit and never worn again.
$220.00 includes shipping.
Just a thought... EMS has their top of the line waterproof down jacket on clearance for $119.98. It is very very warm and packs down into the included stuff sack. It is not ultralight by any means but is ultrawarm. http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp...07807.12019738 and another 20% is discounted when added to the cart bringing the total to 119.98 A thing on EMS clothing is that is typically runs a size larger than other brands. I wear medium with them and typically L or even XL in other brands.
$80 Golite down jacket. Can't beat that!

if I was in the market I'd look at the Stoic Hadron, it's an anorak and we all know anoraks are warmer than jackets. It's on sale for 107 at backcountry. For what the GL Bitteroot costs you can add the Hadron Vest. The anorak+vest would be super toasty and you have two garments for the price of one and much greater variability. Both the Hadron and Bitterroot are sewn through construction, both have Pertex shells though I think the Bitteroot might be a lighter Pertex...but when the vest is under the Hadron much of the negative effect of sewn through outer removed.
Just one of many 0.02's
I just got my golite bitterroot jacket today. 13oz jacket and 150 grams of it are down. It is more beautiful than my kelvinator and fitzroy. It doesn't feel as warm as my fitzroy but it is truly the best jacket out there for the price ,weight and amount of down in it. It's definitely ultralight as well. It's also 150 bucks. A dollar a gram of 850 down. I'll post some pics later.
I agree. I just got mine in the mail. Awesome!
Is this to be durable primary outerwear or something you'd like use for a mid layer; comfortable to sleep in? Need weatherproof fabric, hood, etc.?
I picked up a Marmot Quasar (similar to down sweater) about a month ago and just love it. 900 fill, light, soft shell material, and amazingly warm for the 9 oz weight. Plan to use with a Golite rain shell in the winter along with a black rock hat; sleep in when I need to add to my sleep system. Packs down fairly small into its own pocket so will be in the pack when not worn. Pricy, but found on sale for 185.00.
Only problem I had was that the Lg was just the a hair too tight across the lats when I stretched or had on a base layer and additional shirt. Liked this product enough to look for an XL; found in black on Amazon for 194.00 and received it Tuesday. Returning the Lg to Campmor next week. I'm 5'10, 180, ~44" chest. The Quasar is long in the torso and long sleeves for the sizing; both of which I like.
If looking for a durable primary winter jacket, I don't think the Quasar the ultimate solution (seems a bit delicate), but as a mid layer or insulation under a shell, and the price doable, it's a good solution.
You have any idea if they run small or large for any given size. I'm looking for something in the mid-range weight. Something between a Northface Nuptse (Big and puffy) and a Patagonia down Sweater (pretty minimal). It looks like the Golite at that fabulous price might just be the ticket.
Anyone agree?
