Video: Fronkey's sub 10Ib Hammock pack base weight.
Hey everyone, lazy Fronkey here and I finally whipped up the "What's in my pack" video showing what I carried on my thru-hike last month. After my huge nightmare I explain what and why I carry the things I do while I'm out on the trail. Tala shows off what she carries on the trail too.
Base weight is at sub 9Ib and my Skin out weight is sub 13. Thanks for watching. :D
Good info and fantastic opening pal! thanks for sharing!

Hopefully you have some info on that modded Jam you're rocking there (I believe you mentioned some time ago modding the straps as well!). Looking forward to seeing this!

The pack in the video is a different Jam than the one you are thinking about. However, I will explain it tonight on this thread explaining exactly what I did. :)

THanks man. I actually did lose my knife and that's why the cropping is different in the video because it took me awhile to find it. Lol

Good stuff Fronkey.
Seeing what others use is always good. It helps me learn more and the video was both fun and informative and I love your hiking buddies.
During your opening, I shared your panic. What a nightmare!

We seem to share a lot of the same gear..........camera, ultra-pod, pot, hiking poles. Good taste for sure.
One ounce a day of fuel....for dinner only? Cold brekkie? No coffee?

Great gear video. I will be doing the same trek next year and wanted to see what you carried. Thank you for all of the suggestions for what you use. I will be checking out that pack it looks small enough, but able to carry everything necessary.

I haven't been stung since I was 6 and should be ok without the pen. Good question.

A lot of my gear is from taking things I've read/watched and seeing what works for me. You, Skurka, skygzr to name a few. I don't drink coffee and eat my breakfast after I've broken down camp and started hiking. But, my gear and food is for sure different when I'm not trying to crank out miles.

Geat video, man! Very helpful as I continue to shed weight...in pack and body! You folks are a real blessing with what you share with everyone! I didn't see any of Tala's equipment in your GearGram list...would like to know more about that. Also...was that the Jam 50? Anyway...many thanks for sharing the video and info! Great stuff!

I'll include links to all her gear tonight. If you have any questions inparticular than let me know.
I'll find you a link to the jam too. :)

Are you asking how low in temperature? If so, I've hit 21f with this gear and wasn't even wearing all my clothes. I bet I could do about 15f if I wore everything. Lower if I let tala sleep in the hammock. :D

Thanks Fronkey.
I look at my pack and see there's a ton of work to do.
They say people "pack to their fears"
I must be a real scaredy cat :-)
Also, of all the videos I've watched, this the first time where it's very obvious how much higher the feet are above the head.
As someone who is prone to cramp I set my hammock up flatter than you although it feel like my feet high, as I'm concerned about the blood leaving my feet and (a) cramp, or(b) cold feet.
Must try it a little higher and see what happens. As they say HYOH.
Thanks again

Take in mind that the stuff I'm carrying works for ME and probably won't work for everyone. The same thing goes with how I hang my hammock. Being comfy and taking what you you need to have fun in the woods is what's important. :)
Thanks a lot for watching.

Very nice. I think my pack video is too long and not as entertaining. My gear list is still changing. Everytime I see one of these, I have to switch up my gear a little bit to test out something new. I loved it as always. I hope we can run a trip on the Foothills together in the spring. One of these days I'll have some money for travel and make it on the SHT.
I recently went from a neck knife to a Leatherman CS Style. I like it due to its bigger scissors.

Ripping out bladder sleave, cutting straps, removing attachment points. I think what we have here is a case of gramweenieosis. It's okay there are support groups for it. And although I may have to dodge trees jumping out to get me and use satelite surveilance to not loose you, I'd go hiking with you any day. I'd even let you carry some of my gear. You know since you have the extra weight to spare.
Thanks for the peak inside your pack. Been waiting for this video since your trip report videos.

Honestly, I thought this was the hardest video to make because it is very difficult to make a video like this entertaining and funny without making it really long.
We will seriously keep in touch on that hike. After I finish my little quest in February I will put that right on the table. :)

All that cutting and snipping added up to 4.5 oz. That's like 2 Snickers bars!!!

Thanks for the offer. I have been slowly procuring equipment and making a few things as of right now, but will PM you at some point with particulars of places for picking up caches.

What I did to the straps was take out the stock foam padding and then replace it with Impact Gel. The reason why I didn't post to much about it is because it's really hard to get in it's raw form. My girlfriend's uncle is the guy who invented the stuff and I got a butt load of it from him. Basically what this stuff does is absorb impacts and shocks and makes hiking fast VERY comfortable on my shoulders.

10 out of 9 stars. Primo grade AAA vid Fronkey.
I go the opposite route with the shorts...no liner at all.
OK, a theory. I've never had a blister with any boot and with soaking wet feet AND
my feet --esp. the heels-- dry out and crack. I use some kinda of moo stuff on them
to prevent the cracking. So I'm thinking us dry footed types dont get blisters.
Any word on the upcoming expedition, you and that dark character Wolf?

Nice work Fronkey. I love your setup (I might be a bit biased...). The Golite Jam2 was my first ever pack and it really is a great one! I thought the same thing when you were throwing all of your gear out in the leaves....if it were me, I would have had to get new gear because I lose things almost instantly...lol. Anyway, thanks for the shout out, buddy!

Mine is quite similar, but still have some work to do to get to your skin out weight.
Gonna have to spend some time with the gear list as compared to yours
If that was the gear storage closet in the opening, I bet it took a while to clean it out ;)

Haha Thanks MM! I personally have had blisters when my feet weren't callused. I just trained a lot before this trip to make sure I didn't get any. The cracking is terrible IMO and I do what I can to prevent it.
As for the upcoming expedition. We aren't really going to announce it here on HF, but to give you an idea on what it's about... I'm pretty sure it is the most extreme trip ever done with a hammock. We are go for snow!!!:D

Thanks TZ. This is the gear that worked for me and I would be surprised if others had the same one. For example, I could easily shave 10 oz if I switched my hammy.
That was the coat closet I cleared out. No one touches the gear closet. Hoping to see you again this winter and thanks for watching.

Always nice to get a glimpse into someone else's pack, especially someone who's found good ways to keep it light while remaining safe. I especially liked the snack container.
I definitely was worried for a bit when you were just throwing everything out across the FOV of the camera; then I figured that you had a groundcloth of some sort to catch stuff. I guess you're better at finding stuff in the leaves than I ever was...
Thanks for the video!
