Am I the only one who wants winter to end. In Utah we are in the middle of a cold spell because the Wasatch mountain keeps traping crap polution and that makes it harder for the air to warm up. What I am trying to say is I want to pull out my hammock now. Anyone else wants to do the same thing?
Pollution? I am intrigued.
Here on the east coast winter has finally arrived! I am so happy and hope it sticks around. It's final below 30 and snowing.
So? Pull the hammock out and go hang someplace! Over a dozen of us just hung at the NEHHA in the snow in MA.
With the proper insulation, you can hang year-round! Find a couple of friends, and do a winter hang!

I want spring to come too! I understand you can sleep warmly in a hammock with the right gear, but I still don't want to be cold when I am not sleeping!

Yes sirre, I agree with you, I'm sick and tired of the inversion. I am also raring for spring to come so I can get out of the house. It's not just you. But if it's any consolation there looks like there is a good chance of more snow, at least a little ways north.:(
+1 to this... My kayak is dying to get a bath and I'm done with this cold crap. I want bugs, wild edibles, creek swimming, and my kids out of school so we can do more hiking.Quote:

Spring is probably the worst time to hang in Colorado.
The winds are so strong it blows down live trees. You never know if you are hanging safe.
I've only got to winter camp once so far and hope to get a few more winter hangs in before yard work and house maintenance starts.

Cold weather never bothered when I was younger. Now aches and pain come with even cool weather, let alone the cold stuff. I can’t wait for hot sunny days… it just feels so good to my bones. In the meanwhile I will paddle and hang in my mind and on the internet.
I do enjoy learning about everyone’s cold weather camping. It’s so interesting since I’ve never done it.
It needs to get colder.. I want to break my personal cold records!
My wife and I will be spending the month of March in sunny Florida, so that should help us in the wait for Spring. ...and yes, I will be taking one of my hammocks and tarp with me to FL.
Mort, keep watching the trip planning section for a hike & hang in March around the Central Florida area. We usually are in the Withalacoochee Forest around then, east of Tampa. We would love to have you join us!!Quote:

I long for summer, too. But, at least in the mountain west, things are dangerously dry. I'd welcome a few really wet, snowy months. I don't want a repeat of the fires, dry mountains, etc. we had last year. It'd be nice to have full lakes and flowing streams again this summer.
I live by the wasatch front and the mountains are so tall the trap heavy poluted air until it wind or rain comes in an d the n the polution disapates or is blown away. More heavily crowded air means it is harder to warm up thus the cold spell. I don't have winter gear nor do I have the money to attend a nearby hang so I am waiting for spring so I can get out there. But if you come to utah your apalachians would look like hills. I have been to the east all hills to me. Any way I hate winter. Anyone interested in planing a hang in utah in a couple years we have some good stuff up in utah county for hanging (Ashley National Forest and Uintah Wilderness).
