It took a while before I could take and make time for going out, using my new goodies: The Hammock Gear Winter Palace and my Molly Mac Gear Baby Orca.
They are now well used but filming them was quite problematic since I never thought I could do the quality of the gear any justice. Let's say I did some editing over the last month or so :D
in short: a BIG THANK YOU to Stormcrow & Thorwren and MacEntyre for their great products and service!
Hope you'll enjoy this vid which I shot while doing a bit of a 'How to hammock' movie in Dutch (the language that is!) And sorry for my ugly mug for the icon :scared:

B2R great vid! I should take the lesson and keep mine much shorter.
Your kit looks well well dialed in. The BO at 8 ounces surprises in how warm
I bet. I do wonder though if in your area are there many who can appreciate
what you got there, e.g. I dont think I have a neighbor who has heard of cuben.

Thanks for watching buddy. Luckily I have never ever YET have to run and get everything in stormmode but the idea looked good at the time.

MM thanks for watching and the comment mate. The BO is great, but I reckon it's season is about over. This weekend will be a No Sniveler as UQ and an old sleeping bag as TQ.
Cuben, well, there are a few that have it, have seen it but not many. And I reckon I am the first around my neck of the woods with an IX UQ (although MacEntyre explained the (negligible) difference between the original IX and the stuff he is using now, lazy me just keeps using the term IX.
Btw, editing a video of a bit of a training hike from yesterday, thanks for kicking my b#tt into gear again :D

Nice Palace. Got to stop looking at them...

B2R, forgot to mention
the Orca's season might not be over.
I'm sure you know but noobs may not. It's perfectly OK to stack underquilts
and the Orca is a great candidate to add some degrees to the setup at a good weight.
Another use of the Orca is to shift it down toward the foot end and wrap the side you feet go to.
I've got 3 of mac's IX UQs and need to remember this advice for myself!
The only problem I ever had with IX is its stuffability but we knew that from the get-go.

I watched them for about a year and a half, then bit the bullet and it was (IS) worth it, to me.

you are right I was actually thinking of stacking the Baby Orca coming weekend.
I probably overlooked it but I didn't know about the 'stuffability', but with that weight... you just find another solution to a minor problem.

Nice Grtz! Sweet setup. I've always wanted a HG tarp may have to get one now that I see yours! Love your part of the world. I would be very happy to hang a hammock in the Netherlands. Enjoy your new gear and may it serve you well.

I just pulled the string for a Baby Orca. I'm looking forward to it. I was looking for a way to reduce weight from my 22 oz. Mount Washington 3 (which I will still use). The 8.5 oz Orca was just too tempting.

Thanks for watching Sidewinder. Hanging in Holland is always looking for a spot away from the crowd. Hammock Gear Winter Palace is AWESOME (insert WaterMonkey voice here) ;)

I know what you mean Deacon, the Baby Orca was on my wishlist for a while and I am very glad it is now OFF the wishlist and in the gear to use pile. :D

Johan, are you familiar with the WB Superfly? If so, could you compare the two for us?

Hi Boomer,
Some friends of mine have the WB SUperfly but I am not really familiar with the specs (length, width, weight etc.) other then the website.
I do know that Hawk-Eye has just put up a vid with his new HG Cuben tarp AND the Superfly in this thread.
Hope that helped a bit.

LOL... Mrs Theunissen, my old English teacher would love you for that :D
Depending on several things my accent changes a bit... I guess it is in between British and Australian most of the time..
Van Zwol, now that looks Dutch to me too ..
Gear is always nice to talk about and use it... Thanks for watching and commenting!

Born2Roam,
Thank you for taking the time to make the video. Very nice.
Can you or someone else clarify if the Winter Palace has a 12' ridgeline or is it 10'10" as noted on the Hammock Gear website. I have seen some conflicting info. I was under the impression that it was 12' (144 inches) by 11' (132 inches).
Cheers,
Jason

Both are correct, I just have the 12' version as do others....
Jenny (aka Thorwren) was very clear on what I was getting with ridgeline length and all... and I had to convert from inferial eeh imperial :D to metric :D
Can't go wrong with a HG thing I reckon....email communication is superb. Easier for us folks across the pond, time difference and all....
Thanks for watching and taking your time to comment... glad you liked it!
