Cuben Fiber Material For Sale

I am selling some extra Cuben Fiber material I have instock. The material is a CT2K.08 .75oz in Yellow for $25.00 Lineal Yard. CT2K.08 is the most common cuben fiber material used for Tarps, Tents, Rain Gear, Pack Covers, Stuff Sacks, Etc... This material weighs .75oz per square yard and has a break strength of 105lbs/inch which is 2-3 Times as strong as a 30D Silicone Coated Nylon 6,6.

I am also selling some extra reinforcing material I have. The material is a CT5K.18 1.50oz in Standard Gray for $10.00 Lineal FOOT.. CT5K.18 is the most common cuben fiber material used for Reinforcing Patches on Tarps and Tents since its super strong and highly abrasion resistant.. This material weighs 1.50oz per square yard and has a break strength of 190lbs/inch which is almost twice that of CT2K.08.

Website shows CT5K.18 and CT5K.08.

Based on the weight, it appears to be the CT5K.18

Can you specify which you are offering?

I have received a few emails asking if this material is reflective so I figured I would go ahead an post a comment on here. This material is NOT Reflective. This is the standard translucent CT2K.08 in a custom yellow color.

Strung Out, Cubic Tech's listings on their website are incomplete, so it's likely that Mountainfitter is correct.

Maybe I didn't type that clearly enough.

There are 2 different part #s in the description on the mountainfitter website.

I am wondering which material he is actually selling.

The CT2K.08 works great for tarps, tents, rain gear, pack cover, stuff sacks, etc..

The CT5K.18 works great for reinforcing corners and high abrasion areas.

I just decided. In the spirit of the Holiday's I am going to sell the CT2K.08 for $20.00 yard until December 31. After that the price will go back up to $25.00 yard.

I will try to make this more clear. It seems that there is a typo somewhere.
I understand that you have 2 different types of material available:
CT2k.08 and CT5k.SOMETHING8

Seems to be a simple typo. Just trying to confirm which membrane thickness is on your CT5k material.

Mountainfitter website reads:

Received mine this morning - fast shipping. The CT5K.18 cuben will make great reinforcements, and it feels lighter than I expected. It's also much stronger than the multiple layers of CT.6K.08 that I had been using for tieouts (and which haven't shown any signs of loosening, despite rough use).

As most of you know. I am currently not making tarps but I have quite a bit of CT2K.08 .75oz in yellow that I am selling on my website for $20 per yard. Over the last few weeks quite a few people started asking me if I could cut a tarp for them. At first I was hesitant but now I figured what the hell.. So for $25 I will cut the tarp for you.

I am going to start off with the flat cat design which is my 9'x9' flat ridgeline, cat cut edge design and then add the fastpacker which is the full cat cut tarp and then the hammock hex which is designed specifially for hammocking.. I will add a new design every day or so until the material is gone.

Basically this is for those of you who want to make your own cuben fiber tarp but don't have the space to cut the tarp yourself. The material comes cut in two panels, stacked and ready to go. For the FlatCat, you will need to buy 6 yards of material + the cut fee + any CT5K.18 reinforcing you might need. 1' of CT5K.18 is plenty for one tarp or tent.

Ok after posting on here last night and sending a newsletter, quite a few people asked if I could supply them with a full kit. So those who were interested, here you go..

The kit includes the CT2K.08 .75oz material already cut to the shape of the desired tarp, 2 yards of 3/4" nylon grosgrain, 8 line loc 3's, and a piece of CT5K.18 reinforcement that measures 12"x27" which is big enough to reinforce one tarp. Basically its everything you need to build your own tarp minus adhesive and thread.

Prices are as follows:

They're truly scraps, just the cat cutouts. Do the numbers; the hex tarp use just 7 yards because Lawson switches middle and outer edges to minimize waste......and reduce cost to buyer.

I might want those strips, too, for reinforcement. But, then, the price for cutting may reflect their value to Lawson's.

Suggestion: Buy an extra 1/3 yard for reinforcing strips. Cheap enough.

But, find a pdf by suluk46.com testing bursting strengths of cuben tarp tie-outs, which suggests to me that (as with UHDPE cordage), there's an issue with dynamic resilience in wind gusts. Reinforcement strips will not easily change that.

I get that they switch the fabric to minimize waste. However, the two ends where the cat cut are should be enough fabric to make a couple stuff sacks with. That's what I wanted the fabric for.

Demostix, I've searched the Suluk website, and I can't find the pdf you mentioned. He seems to work with the lightest CTF3, CT.3K.08, which most consider too light for tarps. On the other hand, I've subjected my CT.6K.08 tarp (which some people still consider too light for tarps) to considerable abuse, and while I've had to repair holes punched into it by sharp objects (easy, by the way), I've never seen any sign of the tieouts weakening. This tarp has been left up for weeks at a time, year round, and it's seen some pretty good storms. Can you provide a link to the file you mentioned?

The only tarp that has any waste is the Fastpacker, but I take the piece and cut it into small 6"x6" squares and give about 8 of these squares for EVERY tarp for extra reinforcement. The cat cuts don't have enough waste to do anything with but if you order a tarp and want them, I will be more then happy to include them because they just end up in the recycling bin anyway..

I understand what your getting at now. The material is stacked 4 layers thick and they are cut back to back. So that means each panel I cut yields 2 tarps.. I have a roll going with the hammock hex so every time I cut a new panel I get 2 tarps with no waste. I hope this makes sense now.

It makes total sense. What was confusing to me was how you weren't getting waste and how you were making the tarps that long with only 7 yards. I get it now and please excuse my brain fart. lol

And, then he makes the next one, off the same roll, maybe...... Anyway, Mountainfitter is in business, so it is reasonable of him to turn waste into $, as every tailor would like to do.

Believe me, I'm sympathetic. I asked for scraps when I last scored a DIY TQ here. KLHinNC was so generous (and I hope not tired of DIY) I felt guilty to get a swath, not scraps.

I farkled the red outer layer of a WM Summerlite sleeping bag, and would have loved to buy some patches to make the most unobtrusive repair. (Shout - out to WV for sending me some Pertex = that helped with me another screw-up on an interior.)

Many thanks. This relates well to my experience with tests of CTF3 bonding methods, but we should let this thread get back on topic: Mountainfitter has CTF3 for sale (stronger than the stuff tested, too, I believe).
