I'm looking at getting the Kelty Noah 12 as my 1st tarp. Does this tarp material stretch? If so, any recommendations on pre-made tarp lines with tensioners? I've found the ones made by whoopieslings.com, but I'm looking for something a little more economical than $8 per tarp line. Thanks for any thoughts and opinions!
While we're at it...does anyone know the best current deal on a Kelty Noah 12? The best I've found so far is from Amazon.com at approx. $65 w/ free shipping.

firemedic: Yeah, I saw we're both on the list to attend the Fall Sprawl...but I plan to have a tarp before then. Your "review" of the Kelty Noah 12 helped me decide that this was the tarp I wanted. :-) I wasn't aware it came with tarp lines and stakes, so that's good...at least to start with. I will take you up on your offer to meet up sometime/somewhere. The earliest I could meet would most likely be the middle of next week b/c I'm working 3rd shift until Tuesday morning early.
According to Kelty's website, the tarp is made of "68D polyester 450 mm." Does polyester stretch like nylon?
I haven't had the tarp hanging long enough to see if it does or not. Maybe hook up next thursday ? we can discuss the meeting via PMQuote:

Thanks my19. I thought of that as well...I intentionally bought the Kammok Python Straps instead of the Slap Straps for that reason. Also, I did a Google search after I started this topic (maybe I should've done that first...), and according to what I read polyester stretches little, if at all.

I've had a Noah tarp for years and it does not stretch like Silconized Nylon when it gets wet because it is DWR Poly. So tensioners are optional. But sil is so much lighter and squishes up very small thus why so many upgrade to it later. You'll love your Noah Tarp and Kelty is a good company that stands behind their products.

Those of you using the Kelty! I've been thinking of buying a Kelty tarp. The negative comments that I've seen have been that it is designed to protect from the sun and not rain. Apparently rain seeps through. Have you any input on repelling rain?

As I understood that bad review it was from a fellow who tried one of their "sunshades" (and yes they are a whole different ballgame) not an actual Noah Tarp. I've been in downpours and even a snow storm on Roan Mt once with mine with abs NO problems. Oh yeah and they are seam sealed very well too.
I have live under my Noah 12 for 2 years and have never gotten wet, nor have I experienced seepage. I picked it up for $35 + $7 S&H from www.theclymb.com but you need an invite to join so let me know and I will send you one. Currently they are not offering one but they rotate through gear all the time. You might find all sorts of stuff you might want tho!

I still take it and put it over the picnic table with the separate tarp poles they sell separately when we go there, and it's saved us twice now from the rains.

I have no experience with Hennessy tarps and all I know is I've heard they are minimal. The KNT 12 will prob work with your bike OK though. I have a Chinook 12X9.5 for a hammock & my bike. But sometimes wish it were the 14X12 for 2 bikes.Quote:

Rather not wait but the one thing I do lack is tree's.. I have none. The tornado's that went right up the river-valley last year took care of them. The easiest option is to toss them both in the kayak on Tues (get tent when I get home on Mon), paddle up to a little camping area a mile or so up the stream then play with them in the trees. :) It's good to live just off the water. <grin>
