Check your gear out before you head out.

Just returned from a hammock camp with some friends and my daughter. One friend had bought an ENO bug net the previous day and headed out without checking it at all. After an hour and a half drive, we arrived, checked out the area and started to set up. All of a sudden, Dan says his ENO Guardian has no zipper.

A minute later, Dan again announces that his bug net has no zipper and asks if someone will double check in case he is missing something. Well, he was. The Guardian had a zipper, but the zipper had no pull tabs. I mean there was NO way of opening it.

Extremely upset, he packed up his kit and returned home to get the net replaced, but he didn't return. So even if you don't do a backyard test of new equipment, at least open it up and make sure it has all the necessary parts.

when i was 13 i went on my first hunting trip. up all nite checking and re-checking the firearm, but the last time i put it in the case i forgot the bolt (3 shot bolt 12 ga.). my dad made me stand there all morning. he said if i saw a deer to throw the shells at it and try hitting it with the butt of the rifle :)
i have never ever, ever forgotten to check my gear since then.

ps. the game warden came by and asked me why i had no bolt. i told the story. he checked my license and asked "is your dad the county's hunter safety instructor?" i said "yes". they never let my dad forget this day :(

I cut off all zipper pulls & tie zing it on them

Typically a piece of twine or even a multitool would be useful in place of the missing zipper pull no?

I actually remove all zipper pulls from my gear and replace them with some form of twine or triptease.

Very good idea if I was in the wilderness and my gear messed up man I would be in trouble. Before I go out in the wilderness I try to have an over night camp so I can see if my gear has any trouble and I can adjust now before I am late.

I bet you got the magic version with an enchanted zipper. All you needed were the proper incantations to open and close it.

Same thing!

I got a new ENO Guardian net a couple of months ago. The very same thing w/mine! Just zipper "stock" sewn in from top to bottom w/no tongue or the thing the tongue attaches to either. (I don't know the correct term for all these zipper parts!) That's why you couldn't open it with needle nose pliers or small string, etc. There was nothing to grab!!

I called customer service. They were very nice. I sent it to them and they promptly sent me another one. I got the original one off ebay.

The second one is perfect. I like to way it opens vertically. When it's unzipped, it's not hanging wide open to allow bugs a bigger target to enter.

I had the same problem a while back. In fact, the replacement that ENO sent me had the same problem, and it was missing some stitching in a couple other areas. The third net was finally free. Eno loaded me up with stickers and drink coozies for my troubles, and let me keep the second messed up net.

when i got my GT it didn't come with any tree straps but i took it out opened it up to lust look it over like an hour befor my trip. NO straps so on the way out I got some polly tie downs and made them work. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do

I few weeks ago my dad, my brother, and I went to the public shooting range and I forgot to pack our ammo! I had to drive 35min each way to get it. I don't think they'll let me live it down. But hey, it's a learning experience and I guarantee I'll never forget the ammo again!

DIY guys and gals know why there was no zipper pull. Zippers don't usually come with a pull unless you get one of a specific length. Its easy for a big company to forget a zipper pull, they got a lot going on. For this reason I buy cottage.

I have very long hair, I have a assortment of "Hair Pins" to keep my hair out of my face. You can do all sorts of things with the proper hair pin. They work on zippers, poking little buttons, and many other uses.

I think the zipper pulls are added at the end of putting the zipper on the gear. Sounds like a major quality control issue.

When I bought my ENO I left it sitting for a long time, when I went to use it the biner was crummy. I called ENO, they were very helpful, they sent me two new biners right away. I was impressed with the service and attitude.

Hennessy sure was not nice to deal with, my 2 month old tarp has the finish separating from the nylon, I am not impressed. I am not even going to contact them about the issue, since they were nasty when I called about the Snake Skins I purchased direct from them, had a hole in the seam, I noticed the hole when I opend the package they arrived in.

ENO was really excellent, I would have bought the biner from them, very nice to deal with.:D
