DIY Tarp for 2 hammocks (Honeymoon Suite)

I had plans to design and build this about a year ago, but was delayed. It’s a tarp for 2 hammocks that can be enclosed for storms and privacy for my wife… The tarp is basically a winter tarp with a ‘V’ top. The top starts at 2” V (front) to 36” V (back). The back has 2 extra ‘D’ rings on each end with a Whoopie 7/64 attached, so it can be tightened to give the top back ‘V’ slack. I added 1/8 stretch cord to pull the back ‘V’ up to repel water when raining. For the Side Pull Outs, they are 2’ apart with a 4’ stretch cord (1/8”) attached to both pull outs and a cord is attached to the middle of that. The tarp is made of 1.1 syl, Forest Green with a Gray top and weighs 29 oz. At the Ozark Hang last year UncleMJM and I were talking about it and he came up with the name ‘Honeymoon Suite’, so … Thanks UncleMJM.

Thanks for the dimensions, my husband and I plan to 'hang together' and just use one tarp. That's my next project and I was wondering how big to make it. I like how you have the 'doors' you can close.

That is one BEAST of a tarp! Awesome job! I may not need one that big, but I sure want one. ;-)

This is great! I've been hanging two hammocks under my 12x12 tarp recently, and it works, but I love the coverage yours offers. That triangle/"V" top is a great idea!

The Honeymoon Suite looks great Smokehouse! :boggle: I just showed Cindy the pictures and she loves it too. :)

I can't wait to get my hands on it and start playing around with setup so it will look like we know what we are doing when we see you at the Ozark hang in March.

Would you be willing to supply the dimensions of the 4 bits of Sil it took to create this? :)

Ha how funny I drew up plans for something very similar a few weeks ago except I was basing it on a tent design with poles so I could car camp with my wife and young children so they could use camp cots......this is much more efficient, like it a lot

I've got to add changes I made on the plans I drew up and when I get it done I'll post them for the crazzzy DIY'ers that love to make stuff... :D;)

I did think about putting one in and still might on the next one... ( all it takes is alittle velcro and fiberglass cloth :rolleyes:) I told UncleMJM I would build one for him and wife. I hated seeing them get wet last Ozark hang... :eek: I was afraid if I put a stove jack in his he might do something crazy... :scared:;):lol::lol:

Kudos on that one! Once I get a little more cash, I'm gonna bite the bullet and build myself a smokehouse like the one in your video. I like the honeymoon suite, but the wife refuses to get in a hammock. she swears it'll break while she sleeps. I plan on telling her they are better than a tent because snakes and spiders won't crawl in her mouth while she's sleeping. I'll get her in a hammy yet! I'm also getting the materials together to build a stove like that Ti Goat you have.

We didn't get wet. Granted the setup was not pretty :rolleyes: - Kelty tarp with lines everywhere, but we were dry.

Privacy desires for wifey, cutting down on some of the breezes, and trying to get the Noah's tarp to do more than it was really capable of were the big reasons that we started talking about this.

As for the stove jack and tempting me to light up... :scared: ...

No worries Umjm, I enjoyed building a new design, but had to tease u a little.;) Actually, Deb and I were the ones that were going to get wet, so I put us under 2 tarps.

man you did some seriously awesome work on this tarp. I like the lighter material in the center, it looks like it lets a lot of light in without being annoying

Very nice design and workmanship. The colors compliment each other too, even the red webbing. All it's missing is a bridge from one hammock to the other...

Were you thinking to integrate it...to the top or sides?

To my novice eye, even integrated it seems like it would only be hanging by a rather thin attachment point anyway...no? Might make setup more of a chore with that hanging loose...

I really love it. I could use one of those.

Hmmmm cant help but think that you should be able to put a hiking pole (assuming you have one) between the D rings and save on having to tie out those 2 extra points. Especially for those who would want to use this solo and wouldn't need more than 2 trees. Great design.

Hey smokehouse, nice work! I made a similar tarp prototype years ago that was very similar, and after testing, I wanted to make one wider with 2 custom hammocks (so that both users would face inward) and then put the stove right in the middle (this is after I went out with Turk and realized the awesomeness of the heated shelter!) This way, once in the shelter you could theoretically sit in your hammock and cook! I never got the time to make it though

Glad yall like it. I modified it a little. instead of 3' wide at end its now 4'. I also replaced the flat end with a vestibule.

I do have one called a smokehouse with a small TI stove in it. like Turks. have not seen him on here in awhile...

As an update to previous posts, my date Cindy and I have loved the Honeymoon Suite since our first night out in it. As of now we have deployed it in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and several places in Texas for well over 20 nights by my calculations. We've set it up porch style on both sides and enjoyed lot's of air flow while still having a bit of privacy in the vestibule. We've ridden out some pretty scary storms without a drop dripping or blowing in, and we've been nice and warm on some cold nights with the sides staked low and the doors battened down.

I can't say enough good about it.

If anyone catches Smokehouse in a weak moment where he talks about building one for someone, jump on it. You won't be disappointed.

I saw some pics of your heated shelter, and it was inspiring to say the least. That one was totally awesome.
