Lawson Hammock First Impression

Ok, so I got the Lawson Hammock yesterday and set it up on my deck. It is really cool looking once you get it all set up and everything. What I have heard in previous reviews is that it is really tipsy. So I jumped in and found that yes it is a little scary. But I did play around in it and eventually got a feel for it. I also found that using the angle approach that is commonly used in the gathered end hammocks worked GREAT!:D

Some REALLY REALLY great things about it is the space. I found that you feel like you are in a tent there is so much space around you. The breathability, this thing lets air in from every direction which is fantastic. The View, You have a full 360 view in this hammock and that is a big deal for a lot of people.

The hammock does seem to have it's tricks but what hammock doesn't. I am going to dig in to it more and let you know what I really think after spending a night in this puppy.

Sounds like you got a different Lawson hammock than I had. Mine was poorly made, claustrophobic and it leaked. I sent it back. I wish you better luck with yours. :)

Can't say I was impressed with much beyond its looks either.
But hey, that's why there are so many different hammocks out there. We don't all fit into the same boxes. :cool:

I can see the leaking, I think I will have to use a regular tarp instead of the one that comes with it. definatly not claustrophobic though there was space to spare.

I agree it looks really cool. I can't sell it short though as I think it is one of those systems that just take some figuring out. I will keep you posted:shades:

How much do you weigh BackPackHiker? I'm 200+ and was genuinely concerned about my Lawson's durability; particularly over the long haul.

My model is at least 3 years old, so maybe they've made some improvements, but that was my main concern. I can deal with the tippyness with enough beer. Just counters the effects. :D

I way 160 which does make a difference I know. If I were 200 + I would be less confident in the lawson. It is only rated for 250.

There are dumb Canadians? Who knew? Looking forward to hearing more about your Lawson hammock, ButtPockHiker.

I've had my Lason for 18 months and love it. Learned to stake it down and it as steady as a ground bivy. You deffinently have to seal the seams, learned that the hard way but was in WV last week for two days of rain and not a drop using the Lawson cover.

I don't hook the small loop cords over the spreader bars, that seemed to cramp it. Just them them hang down.

I picked a couple of these hammocks up used for a trip I have planned. Got them both with tree huggers for under $100. I haven't had a chance to set them up yet.
Are people having issues with them leaking through the seems or is water runnig down the support lines and coming in under the tarp?
