83% of what? Do I lay down the hammock and measure from where the sling attaches on one end to the other and then make the ridge 83% of that?

Yup. 83% of the length between the attachment points. For most, I think this is the length from whipping to whipping.Quote:

Again... silly me but I dont understand the %? How to I figure this out???
i've all but got rid of my ridgeline---
i prefer a ridgeline-less TTTG Switchback.
my other hammocks have adjustable lines-- the less sag the better.
i voted > 88%
I can't really vote. On my eno the ridge line is adjustable and it depends on my back. I guess for the most part it would be 83 - 85%. On our hammocks in our hammock fort it is more like 85 - 90% (it too is adjustable). I had to switch things over to adjustable because what is comfortable most of the time, is not as comfortable when my back is out, and I also need the hammock to be easier to get in and out of. On the plus side, the hammock will usually help my back after a few days :D
Went on a campout the weekend of Nov 18-20th. The lay just didn't feel "right". Couldn't figure out what. Then this weekend I decided to check the ridgeline. I have a whoopie sling so I can adjust it and apparently it adjusted itself. My ridgeling was tooooo long, shortened it up, tested it out, and all was better. About 83%.
How do y’all know the %? My ridge-line is tied to the trees though.
I "set" mine to 83%. Measure the length from whipping to whipping without the ridgeline, (mine is 114") then multiply that by 83% (mine=94.62" so 95")
If you take the ridgeline length/overalll length = percentage
95 divided by 114= .8333 move the decimal two places to the right= 83%
Another example- a 108 ridgeline and 124 overall
108/124=.8709 then move the decimal= 87%
I'm still dialing my SRL in (currently at 84%) but will try shorter the next outing. Adding the SRL to my Skeeter Beeter Pro turned it from a decent hammock to a great one!
