Nice Recon. Work! Beautiful day for a stroll in the woods.
Hey guys,
what I'm suggesting is from my experience in going up there 5-8 times a year for the last 20 years.
All 4 sites are good. I think Schultz works well for the first night especially for the late-comers because it's close to the HQ. I think Heffern's works for the second night because it's big, plenty of room to hang as well as open space, large firepit and bench area in the back with a 3 sided shelter if it's rainy and water that is 5 minutes away. It also allows for a decent hiking distance on Saturday for those who so choose.
With all of that said, any site will work. We would just have to cache some water if we chose one of the other sites for Saturday night.
Choose away, fella's. :shades:

As I said early on, I'll leave the final decision on campsites to you guys with experience. With that said, it sounds like you guys are on the right track with Schultz/Heffern.
Me and my buddy Dale are planning to be at the park by mid-afternoon on Friday.
I'll be arriving Friday early afternoon as well. Schultz and Heffern sound fine with me.
Well I'm no expert but for the main hang, I think Brown's Hollow would be much more newbie friendly for site selection/car access. With car access comes water access and a place to store lots of extra stay warm gear. I just hung at Heffern's hill tuesday night and I had a bit of difficulty finding a spot that was nearish to the fire pit and I did hang back at the third ring. Push the slider on the video I posted above to around the 12 minute mark to see the site. I was a bit on the tired side and running low on daylight, however. I'm sure plenty of hammocks can be rigged there and I was all for it until I went there tuesday. I don't think wendel would be a good spot for a big group but for a night one or night three, it would be fine. Shultz is my favorite of the bunch and cars can be staged at the fire tower as well.
I think night one at heffern's hill and night 2 at browns hollow would make a little more sense. If people didn't want to hike from the ranger station they can park at the river access right where the water access is for Hefferns hill. The hike from Heffern's to browns hollow could go across the north side of the park on the paint creek trail over to the forrester trail, through wendel, shultz, and down to browns hollow.
I deleted this from my video for length and because there is another place to pull water a little farther down stream, but it is downstream from here. I'm sure the same can be said for every river a deer drinks from though.
Newbie checking in! I'll bee good where ever you guys choose. I'll bring my tent in case I can't find a place to hang.......:laugh:KIDDING! Seriously I'm prepared to bushwack for a site if need be. I'll bring my kukri. Watch out saplings or thorny brush between two trees roughly 15' apart.
I have to work late on Friday, so I will be there Saturday morning. Just let me know where to park.
Schultz/Hefferin sounds fine to me...
I agree, camp Schultz will be really easy to drive up to and walk in for those of us coming late on Friday.
Edit: just saw doody's post about parking at the river crossing. Either is really okay, but for some reason I like the idea of filling my water from the car in the morning and then hiking to Heffern's and just having water from the river. I'm game for whatever though.
