4 oz canvas?
I was surfing some of the gear websites and coming up with some great ideas for DIY projects when I stumbled upon a hammock sock made from 4 oz canvas. It looks like it would work wonders in colder weather, but when I tried finding the fabric online I didn't have much luck. Anybody have ideas on where I might find some?
I found a few places that have 10 oz canvas but this seems like it would be too heavy and might act as a vapor barrier, which is something I want to avoid.

I didn't find any either when I looked some time back.
Painters drop cloths have been suggested. Some have a tighter weave than others.

You might check for muslin if you want to stay in the cotton/canvas realm. Frankly, I am not sure cotton would be an appropriate choice for your application. If you are looking for an equivalent nylon/polyester fabric I might suggest you seek out a 200 D "canvas weave" fabric.
"Canvas" (not the weave) is by definition a cotton content. "Canvas weave" is a synth fabric which looks like canvas.

Here is a cloth called Osnaburg that is 4.5 oz. It's cheap and might work: http://www.fabric.com/home-decor-fab...d-29889bf8fb7b
I have a sock partially made of a cotton twill but a better one would have a panel of this Osnaburg on top and a bottom of 1.1 ripstop with DWR. I understand that cotton does not frost up on the inside like synthetics.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was already planning on trying my hand at a DIY sock, I was just looking at some stores to see what everyone is making them out of. I have a nearly complete DIY "warbird" (wbbb clone, thanks to 1022 for instructions), and my next projects are a DIY UQ and cat tarp, so I've got some time to figure out what I want to do with the sock.

The only thing I can think of that is close to 4 ounce canvas would be ventile and it's had to find. I have heard of people using really high thread count Egyptian cotton bed sheets, but I haven't seen any in person.
That osnaburg looks very much like burlap though. Lightweight canvas is a bit of a rarity. There are a couple of mid-weight canvas options though. Snowtrekker sells their 8 ounce and Fairfield textile has a 8.25 shelter tent that is amazing.
If you find a 4 ounce canvas that is actually a nice tight weave (not at ventile prices though) please let us know.
Edit: apparently snowtrekker isn't selling canvas right now sorry.

Found the item in question: Molly Mac Hamarak with SEEP. My phone won't post links or I'd link it. But that's the item I'm interested in cloning to suit my needs.

Anyways, it looks like a brilliant idea for cold weather, but I have a hard time justifying $160 when my reasoning behind a DIY kit so far has been to save money (made my own whoopies tonight, tree huggers and "warbird" over the past week or so, starting an IX UQ and the tarp will be next).
Point being, if I can find the fabric I'd like to give that the DIY try too!! :D
