I just thought i would introduce myself.
Just finished my first DIY hammock. Will post pics later on but i have to work on the shoulder squeeze. Also i am going to add a bug net and make my own tarp. Yeah just slightly ambitious.

Probably get less shoulder squeeze with a longer hammock. How long is this one?
I agree ..... I made one a bit shorter once ... tying to save weight ..... and got the dreaded squeeze.Quote:

Welcome to the forums. Always room for another DIY-er. I agree with the comments above, the longer (and wider) the hammock, the more comfortable the lay. You probably want 10-11 feet in length. For a good diagonal lay you may want to consider 60+ inches in width. Not necessary, but you might as well make it as comfortable as possible.
Hey maybe everybody else already knows this :) but what kind of straps are those? With the white and the writing on them? Are they like cinch straps?

I had a few friends with me and they took the pic. Wish i had a remote camera.
I dont have exact dimensions of my hammock but its something like 125"ish by 60"ish. This project opened a door to LOTS of DIY projects that i now have planned. **** you **** you all.
About the straps they are industrial straps for those times on the trail when u need to secure 6600lbs. Also i got them for free. Just had to sew the loops and melt the edges
