how do i attach a ridgeline to a hammock with channel ends?
right now, i've got AHE chain and cinch buckles run through the channel and back through itself making a larks head.
next question... how much weight does the ridgeline need to carry? is it important for the ridgeline to not be stretchable like nylon or paracord?
winky... undo the lark shead and place either end of the RL into either end of the suspension and then re-larks head. It will be right at the end of the hammock, prior to the chain link entering the channel. Ive been meaning to do a vid of the attachment... If my description doesnt help, Ill get one done up real quick.
I would say you dont want your RL to stretch. The point of it is to keep a consistent sag and if it stretches, its not keeping a consistent sag.
I've used paracord successfully as a ridgeline, it doesn't stretch that much.
The load on your ridgeline is determined by how the rest of the suspension is setup. If you have your knots high, and the main suspension is at least 30 degrees below horizontal, then you shouldn't have too many problems.
In my limited experience, I've used paracord, and some polyester cord rated at 300 pounds (breaking strength) without issues....
Don't use mason line! The smallest dyneema (zing-it, lash-it, etc.) would be overkill, but nice and light.
For my first one, I tied a bowline around the larkshead like Opie described above (at one end) and a trucker's hitch at the other for adjustability.
Once I had it where I wanted it, I tied it off permanently...

I have some of the cable locks from the forum store on order to play with (figured I'd order them with my sticker since shipping was about the same); would they be strong enough to make an adjustable ridgeline with some 3mm accessory cord or paracord?
:Edit because the iPhone is hard to type on: I've noticed that the paracord does not hold a rolling hitch very under a heavy load, which is what I use for my guy lines.

If your looking to add a bug net you could always loosen the larks head pass the ridgeline loop through the larks head loop then pass the suspension through the ridge loop and tighten the larks head. This will put your ridgeline inside your larks head and you can now attach a bug net with out having a hole where the ridgeline has to pass through the netting.
