Maybe more than a BIG wish list...
There will be a gear drawing and she may be a winner!
There will also be folks with gear to trade or sell I bet too.:)

Been a couple of weeks since I popped in to catch up on threads. Beverly, my wife and I live in Grand Prairie on the opposite side of Joe Pool lake from Cedar Hill state park. We don't have any significant plans this weekend yet and would be happy to meet you at the park. We have a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe (with 2QZQ's Mod4 Zipper), a Warbonnet Blackbird, and a Dangerbird 72, we would be happy to demonstrate, along with our Hex tarps. Otherwise, we'll also be at the Group Hang in November. PM me if you're interested.
Beverly, Welcome from Fort Worth, I can attest to all that has been said. My first hang was last November at Fairfield and it is an event not to be missed. I learned a ton of information and got a good idea as to what kind of setup I would get. Seeing the gear in person made it all much clearer to me. Everyone was super helpful.
Welcome to HF from Charlotte, NC. I hope your AT dream becomes reality.
Welcome and good luck. I too plan to hike the A.T. In the distant future. I just wish I could win the lottery so I could leave 20-25 years sooner :-)
Welcome from Austin :D
Keep your dream alive :thumbup1:
Hi Beverly from NJ. If no one else has mentioned it, I recommend The Ultimate Hang-An Illustrated Guide to Hammock Camping,by Derek Hansen(dejoha on this forum).
welcome to the madness
Normally anything under your tarp will stay very dryQuote:
how do you keep your gear dry?
what do you do if there are no trees close enough together?
what if there is a storm that insists that you hunker down for more than a night? Are you stuck without a way to cook and eat?
what about strong winds?
No trees, get creative. Several members have hiked the whoe AT and use a hammcok the whole way
You can cook under your tarp if you have to. Check out Shug's trip reports. he often cooks while in his hammock.
If your hammock and tarp are set up properly, wind will not be an issue
Howdy Beverly. I'm in Conroe just north of Houston. Hopefully I'll see you at the group hang in November.
