Hello!
Newbie here...
Just tried my new whoopie slings on my hammock, and at inspection after use i found that the cord has split pretty much at the splice. Is this normal??
its 7/64 amsteel, my eight is 245 pund.

Looks like mine do... I hope its normal...
Are you looking at the locked brummel or the whoopie bury? If you're looking at the bury itself, that's perfectly normal.
Okay! Thank's for your replies :)
I posted the same question a month or so ago... Everyone seemed to agree that's normal.
I don't think it's a good thing, and the manufacturer of Amsteel apparently did tests and found that to be the weakest spot on a whoopie... But given that they found whoopies to be more than 90% of the original strength of the line, and I don't know of a single confirmed whoopie failure on this site, I'm more than confident.
I think what it boils down to is that if you were right at the breaking strength of the Amsteel then you'd have to worry about that, but since we generally operate well below that rating it's fine.
I'm assuming that the picture shows where the tail of the adjustable loop exits the constrictor portion. It is a normal occurrence. One can lessen the effect if they pull the tail end inline with the line going to the fixed eye rather than pulling outward at an angle when adjusting.
Mine was really frayed, but still held my big old butt without a problem. I switched to UCR's which IMO, don't fray as much and are easier to adjust and release.
Normal and still looks new. Its going to look a lot worse over time but it will still be ok. Don't worry about it until you start to see broken fibers.
