It was clear and not advised to do as it crushes the rope and has caused at least a couple of failures of the rope. And it's really not recommended for use with amsteel or dynaglide which are even more susceptible to the crushing forces when run between rings.

Amsteel
I noticed you are in FL. If you have a West Marine near you or another boatin supply store you can get the Amsteel 7/64 there. It is a stock item where I am on the Chesapeake Bay. It's common for sailing (or so I'm told).
Not sure on the price comparison for the link posted for DIY gear supply though.

Ah, good call gmcttr, read it too quickly. Yes, those ropes I suggested are a bad choice for the 2 rappelling rings suspension. 1" polyester webbing is certainly the way to go with them. Wrap around the tree and directly to the hammock.

Ah yes :). Speaking of your amsteel suggestions I may ditch rappel rings alltogether. Might go whoopie sling all the way. And you're quite right, I do have a westmarine a few blocks from me. No shipping!! ahhh...the pursuit goes on...decisions decisions.... :D

I got some tie down straps at Tractor Supply they work great for the 2 ring method. Fairly cheap too if you get them on sale.
