Impressively engineered, Keith! Impressively engineered!...............Tony
Looks well engineered. Isn't this hammock made for two people? Have you tried it with two to check it's stability? It looks like it would still be stable.
I haven't slept in it with someone else in this configuration but my girls have (8 and 10 years old). They slept like babies but of course that isn't much of a comparison to adults. I have shifted from one side to the other and the sway lines kept it rock solid. I'll try it with my wife this weekend and will let you know.
Looks very nice. I have the Vertex, and my husband and I love it. I was wondering about the Flex 180, but we exceed the weight limit on it.
Bro those pictures are bad ***! Very well done...love the ingenuity!
My wife and I zip our mummy bags together so we weren't interested in the vertex's separate sleeping areas. Does the 180 hang the two of you close enough to combine bags, or does the center create a barrier between the two of you? Excellent mods by the way!!!
Unfortunately the middle does pop up and separates the two sides. If you look at my pictures under my profile, you can see a picture of my girls sleeping side by side in it. Happy hanging!
That's the best pic I've seen so far to show the actual sleeping position. Thanks!
That's awesome. I had a chance to try the Flex on at the Clark store in SLC and it was great. My only reservation is the massive amount of Velcro underneath didn't seem like a polished insulation strategy. I kinda like the idea of returning to a pad like the massive Exped ones.
Nice job on the suspension! I was getting there with the whoopie slings and the spreader bar. I didn't think of the anchor.. thanx! And nice pictures :)
On picture nr. 7 in the original post of this thread. My keen eagle eyes spot what looks like an UQ. What brand, if not DIY, is that?
Keith, thanks for the suspension ideas. I ordered a JRB spreader bar before the Flex even arrived. I've placed an order for 3 whoopies and tree straps from Arrowhead Equip- should arrive Thursday. My initial impressions are 1)This thing is huge (fog horn blowing in background) 2) It is well made and should out last me 3) Definitely a car camping hammock, unless a backpacking buddy can split the load by taking the tarp, poles, and spreader bar for a shared hammock set up.
Hi Keith, my hubby is looking at the Flex 180 and came across your thread. He is curious to know what your height and weight is to give him some perspective as he looks at the pictures, if you wouldn't mind sharing. He is also interested in shoulder width. Do you feel like you have plenty of shoulder space? He is trying to decide if this might be a good hammock option for him. He is 6'6" and about 260 lbs and has really wide shoulders.
