Welcome to the forums from Scotland.
There are quite a few women on here so you're not that weird, we don't discriminate as long as you like hammocks :D
I never even knew forums like this existed until around a year ago... advice? Jump in, everyone is really nice here.
There are loads of tutorials here on how to make tarps if that's what you wanna do, sometimes google search works better than the search function on the site try pasting this into google
'site:hammockforums.net black cat tarp'
Check out diy gear supply tutorials as well http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/diy-guides/tarps/

Welcome from Virginia! Male... Female... if you're hanging in a hammock, then it's all good! ;)

Welcome to HF. You're in good company here. You can get by with a blue tarp until you save up for something nicer. Keep an eye on the for sale forum for deals. Guide Gear tarps are fairly inexpensive as well. You just missed a group hang in Wake Forest. Watch the trip planning/southeast forum for more group events. They're a great way to learn, make friends, and try out different hammocks.
