I'm going to do an overnight at Texoma on Saturday April 27. Anyone is welcome to come with. I don't really have a plan yet, so I'm pretty flexible on what goes down. We could hike in a mile or 2 and camp and hike out. We could park a vehicle at each end and hike in half way, camp, then hike out the rest of the way and shuttle back. I rate this trail as a medium difficulty, so if you aren't used to hiking, just know that there are some elevation changes and a bit of rugged terrain. I plan on being there about 11 or 12 on Saturday.
This is one of my favorite trails in the area. I did a trip report that highlights some of my favorite spots.

VERY tempting. I even have a Hawk Vittles that needs eatten....
I'd probably be up for the hike/shuttle deal.

Ok. Looks like we're going to do the whole trail. Ray, do you mind leaving your truck where we left it last time? We can pick you up there and then you can shuttle us back. Since we are going to be hiking a bit more, lets meet at 10a.
Does that work for you?

Yep can do the truck at the western parking area (that same one we used). However, I will have to decide next week for go-no-go for launch. I've had a knee issue for a time. Awoke yesterday and told myself all day "make an appointment to see the doc", then didn't do it. Went to bed with a heating pad and awoke today, almost pain free....Guess my knee decided to behave before the doc took a look.

It's going to be a small group, but we should have some nice bonding time :) Forecast says there's a 20% chance for some rain, but the temps should be good for hiking.

Do ya'll have a GPS on the Western parking area that you're meeting at? I may join in for a few hours in then back out on my own. That is if the wife doesn't have me hemmed up. A couple of hours would be a good shake down for next week.

We've pretty much decided to just meet at Juniper Point. It's right off 377 on the left 50yards before you go over the bridge at the border of OK.
Let me see if I can gps numbers.

Is the plan to meet at Juniper Point at 10am on Saturday? Any idea where you plan on camping? Eagle Roost or further?

Caveman, Can you add me to the list? I've been wanting to do that "full trail" ever since I saw your video review.

Well... If we have the vehicles to shuttle, let's plan on someone parking at the west parking area.
We can meet at Juniper Point at 10am. I figured we would probably end up camping at 5mile camp. Anyone that would like to hike farther could hike up to eagle roost and come back or we can work it out when we get there? I know that those who are not used to hiking have a bit of trouble with the first 6 or 7 miles, so I thought 5 mile would probably be a safe place to stop. The rest of the trail only has 1 small hill and then it's smooth sailing. I'm easy.
If we are going to do the whole trail we need to work out who is parking at the west end. Originally Ray was going to leave his truck there, but he's out, so if there is another for sure that doesn't mind parking there, we can meet them around 930am and then ride together to juniper.

Do you want to volunteer to park at the west lot and shuttle us back to Juniper Point?
04-24-2013, 12:07

Sure, just tell me where we meet up initially. Juniper Point?
I guess two cars will go to the west lot, I leave my vehicle, and we go back to Juniper point and meet up with the rest? I have a Durango that will hold 5.

Ok.. The list as of now (I think)
Gimpy
Hatebeans and Lil'Bacon (can't make it)
Go Spidey
Shane (and Pam) "maybe"
Caveman
Wood (maybe for a few miles) :)
Rhjanes (maybe, but probably not)
Nothing special going on at camp, so bring your own food and water. There is water at a few places on the trail, so take that for what its worth.

Hey, just making it official, I won't make it. Sad about that. But having knee issues (specialist said rest it some what, stay on the meds....wife was quick to point out my advancing years...) and back issues and it seems I'd committed to some family deal.
Take care, have fun, post a trip report and make it sound horrible so I don't feel bad about missing this.

Thanks Caveman, Go Spidey, & Gimpy! The hike was great. I just wished I could have done the whole thing. The hike back out at my own pace was better! Here's a few pics from my hike back out.
It was a pretty nice weekend. Everything went pretty much as planned and the weather was great.
We picked up GoSpidey at the west end of the trail and headed back to Juniper at around 945. Wood was waiting at the parking lot and we hit the trail. We quickly broke into two groups, but met up again at a few places on the trail. Wood hiked with us to Cedar Bayou where we had snacks and he went back to Juniper Point (he had obligations for Sunday and wasn't able to stay the night and finish the trail). It was cool to meet you Wood. Thanks for coming out to say hi.
Gimpy, GoSpidey and I hiked in the rest of the way to 5 mile camp and began setting up our sleeping areas. Show and tell time was fun and we lounged for a while. We had made good time to 5 mile, so it was still early (I like to think of this as Nap Time). When I woke, it was almost dark and time for some dinner. I started a fire and we enjoyed good conversation and the warmth of the fire until around 11 or so.
We woke early, packed up, ate a quick bite and hit the trail. The hike out from 5 mile doesn't have too much elevation change and a pretty easy going hike, so we were quickly back at GoSpidey's vehicle and heading our seperate ways.
It was a nice trip. The weather was great and the trail is well marked. I only took a few pics. I'll try and load them soon.

I had a great time, Gimpy definitely ain't gimpy. Especially in his imagination!
Wood, hope to see you at the next one. Good luck with the Michigan trek.
Thanks for showing me the way Caveman. I'll be back there.
