Clark and mosquitoes Fabric

Hello Everyone,

I wanted you all to be the first to know that Clark hammocks continue to get better. We have heard from various customers over the years that a truly mosquito-proof lightweight camping hammock is impossible to produce without chemicals, a false bottom, or using double layers of fabric etc. We didn't like any of these alternatives because we find them clumsy and because they add cost and weight to the hammock. The goal is to create a hammock bed that is strong, lightweight, water-resistant, breathable, and completely mosquito-proof --- using a single layer of fabric.

To find this fabric, we have worked with a lab and a U.S. fabric company for the last year. Our first tests resulted in disappointing failures. However, I'm glad to report that we have succeeded in developing a fabric that fulfills all of our goals. The lab confirms that hundreds of hungry mosquitoes were unable to penetrate the fabric no matter how hard they tried.

What does this mean? It means we are confident that all new Clark hammocks will protect you (even if you are not wearing clothing). It also means that most Clark hammocks are now even lighter and pack even tighter in your pack. You'll see the weight changes reflected on our website starting in August.

If you have purchased a hammock after May 15, 2008, it's likely you have the new material. All NX-200 models use the mosquito-proof material as well.

What is the name of the new fabric?

Is the fabric available for purchase from Clark or else ware?

I would doubt very seriously that they would give away that information

I'd really like to try an NX-200 myself but the $$$ compared to my TrekLight Double is quite significant if it doesn't end up working for me, $370 is a lot of money for a hammock :( . Lately, I've been subscribing to the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" school not the "If it ain't broke, fix it til it is" school.

They should patent the "new fabric" so they can tell us all the big secret.

Lots of consumers are cautious of buying something described by the manufacturer as a "secret new formula."

The Clark NA is a great hammock, I just wish they would have had the nx-200 and the new fabric available when I ordered mine last year. With hammocks coming out of my ears, how can I justify the "new and improved" model? I already have enough to outfit a small Boy Scout troop.:o:p:D:cool::eek:

I WISH I had the nx-200 - I have the NA. My post was lamenting that I couldn't get the NX-200 right now. $400 is out of my range at the moment, and my wife would probably divorce me first b4 killing me. :eek:

Does anyone know if you can buy just the Clark hammock but not the tarp? Since I already have a tarp I was wondering if I could reduce the coat by just buying the hammock.

Yes, you can buy the hammock without the tarp.
Just call and they'll tell you how.

That's how I purchased mine.

The concept is great, could never get to the point where I felt comfortable with my Clark NA. The netting was in my face all the time, was too hot with no airflow, etc. Probably just me, I really wanted to like it though.

Use a Hennessy now, does great for me.

I got my Clark NX-250 in late 2011 and can say for sure it has handled the worst of mosquito's in area's of forest in Melbourne Australia at least.

I have hung out in area's where it was so bad i couldnt sleep for the noise of the mosquito's attempting to attack me through the bottom of the hammock.

I have not been bitten through such even where my skin has been directly exposed to the hammock floor material.

I added a pair of push in earplugs into the little pockets so i can get some sleep.

Having said this, there are in the tropics of Australia some very large mozzies with big suckers, i have not tried the hammock in such area's but can vouch for Melbourne where you can be eaten alive by them.
