There's another hammock in town. I was out playing and ran into this. It's called the Suspended Sleeping System. Bag, pad, sleeping bag...all in one:confused:

That's actually a pretty cool idea, especially for beginning hangers. I can see some places where some weight could be dropped for sure - and there's probably more that I don't see just from the description - but not too bad overall. Who wants to be the guinea pig and buy one? :D
Ironically, I was considering doing something like this hammock-pad-bag combo for the dinos - a bottom sleeve to slip in a pad (thinner for summer, thicker for colder weather), sleeves for side pads and sewing a light quilt to one side with bug net at the top. Put two of these side-by-side in an oversized JRB-style hammock tarptent, add a fleece blanket in colder weather and you've got a system that just might keep the dinos happy.
How is it that I've never seen that before?!
Pretty good start to the concept. Gave me a few ideas right off the bat...I'll let them simmer in my head and see if they turn into anything.
It appears to be from a brand new cottage industry. The company doesn't have a website yet.
It's a cool idea that I think has it's place.
But to me I don't want to combine my pack or anything exposed with anything. I am always getting snaged on something while I am hiking. There is always a low branch, vine, thorn, or something that could put a hole in something like ripstop.
For this reason I don't even want to pack my gearskin with the hammock as a frame.
You beat me to it. I saw it a couple days ago. 1 problem I see is weight.
The weight could be dealt with by a materials change. I agree with HE's assessment, though - I'm skeptical about potentially damaging my shelter, especially since it has to support my weight. Moonbow talks about a system like this with their Gearskin, but theirs is meant to be used with a tent or tarp...not as much of an issue there since you're not really relying on a ground shelter for structural integrity as much.
Holy heavy batman! 9 pounds, 4.15 ounces!
