It's recently come to my attention that the ignitor (red button) is broken. I thought I saw a thread on WB with this problem. It's pretty new, guess I will just contact Jetboil, but for now it's off the market.

Not to worry ... order one from REI ... just $10

I'm pretty sure that 'broken' is the normal condition for JetBoil ignitors.
I replaced mine this spring. It's easy to replace. I get em' from REI. I keep a spare in my pack. You can still light the stove without the ignitor using a lighter. Just have to take the cup off the stove before lighting. Another tip is to make sure you have the ignitor close enough to the burner otherwise the spark won't ignite the gas. You just have to bend the wire into position.
Just sell the darn thing cheap and put the money towards a Snow Peak manual ignition stove and your choice of pot. It will be cheaper than buying two more ignitors, finally giving up on that working, and then setting it on the shelf to collect dust. Speaking of...
my experience also. The JetBoil wasn't starting off the ignitor. I use matches for a while---the hair on your fingers grows back eventually :shades:---then examined a JetBoil with a working ignitor and saw that mine was a bit farther away from the gas release. Bent it close again, and Swoosh! JetBoil ignites again.
Grizz
Dedicated jetboil user here. To darn convenient minus the poor ignition. Matches are always in my pack anyway so I just use those. Best stove I've ever owned as far as my needs go.
my friends broke but really it was just bent too close to the mettle of the jet and the spark wasn't big enough to light it. Also ofter adjusting at one point it was too far away and it couldn't arc.
its an easy fix.i love my jetboil, jetboil has always taken care of me.the president of jetboil is friend of i mine,i stayed at his house in hanover nh
in 2005 on my section hike there.:cool:neo

I've been using matches, works just fine. The jetboil is a good little stove for weekend trips, a little on the bulky side, but worth the convenience and simplicity...probably go with an alcohol stove for the AT though.
Now that AS fixed my map situation I won't have to sell my gear. That's what I love about this forum so many people willing to share their knowledge and it's done in such a kind way:)
That was the first thing that happened on my Jetboil. It was an easy fix. Then the end cap cracked. No replacement for that yet. Then criters chewed chuncks out of the lid. Hand to buy a coffee press kit for the lid.
Other than that it's a realy good little stove. Wish that they would sell replacement parts.
Mine broke a long time ago. I use a lighter, figure I am carrying on of those anyways.
I was told by a sales rep and a few others that they ALL break quite soon after purchase (6 months normal use). He suggested that one use matches/lighter until you have to call upon the ignition in a pinch.
Mine broke after one use. I replaced it and it broke again. The guy at REI said that is typical, but it happens more if you put the canister on top when you store it in the cup. This screws up the igniter somehow. But yea, its still a good stove if you just use a lighter.
Jetboil is not bad for what it is...i have one and use it once in a while...but i like my voodoo 3 from MBD with my SP 600 mug...if i car camp i take my Kelly Kettle
all in all never had a problem with my jetboil i know ppl that had problems with there jetboils but was fixed with the $10 maint kit they sell
I just got one this past Feb ... and no trouble yet. Even dropped it down Razor's Edge trail for about a 40 meter roll! No ill effects. It's not as light as an alky but for a sell contained fast to boil kit ... it's hard to beat. Like and alky ... it's a bit tempermental in the cold cold ... so you need to sleep with your canister! :scared:
