has anyone heard of this? you get a box put some gear in it ship it to the next person on the list he puts in a piece of gear and takes a piece, then forwards it to the next person etc till it makes a full circle. just think of all the swag we could be trading.:boggle::drool::thumbup1:
Sounds like a great idea. I think I'll take that Warbonnet Blackbird out of the box, and send someone my Hennessy! Keep paying it forward. :lol:

I've heard of these full of camping/backpacking gear. I've also started one for geocaching.
Never thought about a hammock goody box, though... Sounds like a great idea to me!
All of my gear is home-made, but I could trade two hammocks for whatever grabs my attention in the box.
I have had a couple of these boxes come my way. Mostly containing knickknacks and miscellaneous items, not "big" things like hammocks, tents, tarps, sleeping bags. I did however slip in a hammock into one before I sent it on its way.

I signed up for one of these on a backpacking forum a while back...haven't seen it yet, over a year later. Looks like there is a master mailing list to be maintained. Great idea, though.
I'm willing to play. I have a lot of random stuff from packs to tents, hammocks to cooking gear, pads to stuff sacks that I need to unload so I can get some new toys.
I plan on putting some on here for sale but would be glad to trade in a gear box as well.

I have done some research . And I think this would be something fun to try.
So I will start taking names on April 1st and will stop on May 1st.
I will ship the box by May 15th.
Well I guess this is where we need some rules.
1) This is only open to hammock forum members.
2) There is a $20.00 min for the stuff you you put in the box.( this could be 1 item or several, homemade gear is ok and encouraged) used gear is fine as well.
3) Replace item with something of equal or greater value.
4) It is up to you to pay the package forward to the next person within 1 week of receiving it.
5) You must email me when you receive and ship the package so I can led the next person to look for it.
6) try to limit it to new or good condition.
Well I think that's it. If you have any ideas to improve this pm me before April 1st.

I have decided to remove my suggestion.
I was not trying to protect myself for a $20 loss. Instead I was trying to have the community that is responsible for this benefit through having more member donate.
In my mind, if you can afford give away $20+ items, you should first thank (by donating) the vehicle which made it possible.
To each their own.

no duct tape that was my problem with the counselors rules it is my goal to attract people to this forum by participation. not exclude people. his other suggestion was you had to meet a forum member well im a cyclist so i don't travel far and as far as i know the closest member to me is the rev who seems cool enough but he is a half a state away. if we went by his rules i couldn't participate in this and it was my suggestion. witch is why counselor will be excluded. its not the money its the principle. he doesnt know every one else's situation. there are many people in this world who may be laid off or worse for him to assume that everyone has the money to donate is wrong. i agree that we should donate to this forum but you shouldn't punish others for there situations. i will become a donating member but still wont exclude anyone.:tongueup:Quote:

If you don't want the requirement for participation to include being a Donating Member, that's fine. I *suggest* that you do set some requirements, though. If you don't, then I'm willing to bet that the participation won't be nearly as good (in terms of both number of people, as well as quality of goods traded) as if you don't set some requirements.

OK I started this because i thought it would be interesting and fun. not to have to hold people to a bunch of rules. but to hold people to an honer system.. I have decided that this is already more trouble than its worth. therefor i will not be participating. nor will i be starting any thing like this. thanks for your input and thoughts.
