Go to the DIY forum, and look for the "Gathered End Hammock" sticky, this will open your mind to many different techniques!

+1 on Knotty's design. It's really easy to make too as it's pretty much just straight sewing and takes about an hour to make. Looking forward to seeing what you make. Good luck.

look at www.mydiygear.com for a pattern for a bug net by Papasmurf.

Just Jeff's also has a good tutorial. The most comfortable one I've made yet was one with folded together ends and a bridge sewn in to make way for a zipper to run completely around the edge of the hammock.
My bad, it was HC4U's tutorial that I used to make that hammock. The fold and the sewn in ends made for a zipped in bug net if you like. All three that JohnSawyer lists are great tutorials though.

Here are several I've made over the last year based on Knotty's , HC4U's, and 1022's instructions.
I never operated a sewing machine before last year... it's not as hard as it looks, it just takes patience.

If I can do it, anybody can! Definitely start with Knotty's instructions. If you don't like how it lays, look at HC4U's design. You can make it without the bugnet.
