OK, I have mocked up my PHS and am debating one point and so I wanted to see what all of you used. I am not sure I am willing to trust eye-bolts that just lag screw into the 2x4 uprights. Did you guys use the lag bolt style or did you drill through and put a washer and nut on the back side???
All joints need bolts through both pieces, washers on both sides. OG was suggesting Eye Bols with wing nuts so you'd have something to hold on to. Using wing nuts with hex-head bolts still requires a wrench...
Carriage bolts are an option, but I've found they spin after a few installs...
I used porch swing hardware, if it'll hold a swing with two people it should hold a hammock.
BigRig, what length screws did you use to attach it to the upright?
I have a strong bias in favor of eyebolts backed with fender washers, and feel that whenever possible, they should be used.
Having said that, properly installed screw eyes of an appropriate size are adequate.
There's another very cool, very handy little fastener, called a eye nut.

As you can see, the prices are breathtaking...
So, I make my own, for pennies.:)
I'm looking at setting up one of these for my quarters - any stability issues with day-in, day-out use?
I never found any with mine.
agreed. you could beef it up, tie it down etc as needed.
forgot to mention I build one of these for a Scout Camporall (read wide open fairground)
