I have these and love them, so far. But DO NOT follow the directions on the site, use the method by Shane- here.
You can go about as short as you need.
I would second what Exup suggested, go to Zpacks and check out the micro line locs and the smallest of the zline. I swear it reminded me of braded fishing line it was so small. Exup, what size was that stuff? 1.2mm??
I'm a zing-it and prusik guy but I might setup one of my other tarps in that zpacks stuff.

Main lines of the tarp? Some people use prusiks, dutchware (this is my favorite) or multiple knots. I'm a fan of the Continuous Ridge Line and went ahead and bought a Single Line Tarp Ridgeline with Dutchware from whoopieslings.com. They also have several other options, and can at least give you a few ideas of what people use.
They also have a guide which may give you a few ideas. And there are a ton of posts in this section of the forum about the same thing.

My swedish made tarp from Hileberg came with the line-lock as standard. I think they work well, easy to tighten and do not slip. Mine is mounted so the "loop end" is on the tarp and the single line is towards the peg. The bonus is that the line is always attached to the tarp and it is easyer to fasten the single line to a tree or a branch with a knot and still be able to adjust the lenght.
